OpenAI Launches Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT Subscribers

OpenAI has announced that it is rolling out Advanced Voice Mode to paid ChatGPT users.

This audio feature will initially be available to subscribers to the Plus plans for individuals and Teams for teams, while customers on the Enterprise and Edu plans will get it next week.

As part of this rollout, the advanced voice mode has received a new design, with ChatGPT now displaying a moving blue circle instead of the moving black dots in the interface while in use.

Users will see a notification within the ChatGPT app next to the voice icon when the feature becomes available to them.

ChatGPT has 5 new voices that users can try out, bringing the total number of available voices to 9, with the absence of the controversial Sky voice due to its similarity to the voice of American actress Scarlett Johansson, who threatened to sue the company before the company backed down and removed it.

Advanced Voice Mode allows users to interact with ChatGPT in a natural way with quick voice responses, the ability to follow up on questions and inquiries, and interrupt ChatGPT while responding if necessary, as is the case in everyday human conversations.

OpenAI implicitly apologized for the delay in launching the advanced voice mode in a promotional video it posted on its X platform account, which showcases the voice mode’s capabilities in pronouncing the phrase “Sorry, I’m late” in several languages.

OpenAI says it has made some improvements since the beta version of Voice Mode was released, including improved accent understanding, faster and smoother conversations, and bug fixes.

Additionally, OpenAI has expanded some of ChatGPT's personalization features to include voice mode, such as custom prompts that allow users to customize how ChatGPT responds to them, and a memory feature that enables it to remember previous conversations for future use, giving users a more personalized user experience.

OpenAI also noted that advanced voice mode is not yet available in some regions, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, likely for regulatory reasons.
