Now you can mention other people in WhatsApp statuses This button you will start seeing
WhatsApp will allow its users to mention other users in statuses. This way, the mentioned users will be able to share the status as if it were their own, similar to what Instagram allows. It is already available for some WhatsApp beta testers in the Google Play Store on Android, and will soon reach end users.
The medium that revealed the news is WABetaInfo . Accordingly, when we want to share a status, the (@) sign will appear in the bottom bar, where the text is added. By clicking on the sign we can mention a contact.
If we select a contact, they will receive a message on WhatsApp indicating that we mentioned them. In addition to the notification, you can share the mentioned status as if it were your own, so that your contacts can see it.
Mentions are private. This means that users who view the original status will not be able to see who was tagged or where the status came from. This way, it will be possible to share it with someone else without your contacts knowing who posted it.
Mentioned users will always receive mention notifications. Regardless of their privacy settings, the mention will always appear, letting them know they have been mentioned at all times.
This feature has already reached WhatsApp beta version 2.24.20.3, which is now available to beta testers. Likewise, this does not mean that it has reached all testers, as many still do not have the novelty.
It is not known when it will reach regular users, but it is expected to be in the coming weeks. WhatsApp first introduces new features in its beta version, and when it verifies that they work properly, it integrates them permanently into its official version.
