Nothing Unveils Its New Ear Open Wireless Headphones

Nothing has announced its first line of Nothing Ear Open earbuds , designed for activities where users need to hear what's going on around them.

The new Nothing earbuds come with a design that sits on the ear and extends behind it, providing a comfortable alternative to earbuds that rely on silicone tips that are inserted into the ear canal, which rely primarily on transmitting sound through the bones of the skull.

The Nothing Ear Open headphones join a growing trend in the wireless headphone market that ditches active noise cancellation in favor of a design that lets outside sounds in, and they're similar to the Ultra Open headphones that Bose introduced earlier this year.

The Nothing Ear Open comes with a transparent charging case, and its battery lasts up to 8 hours of playback per charge, and its total battery life reaches 30 hours when recharged using the charging case. Although it does not support wireless charging, the company says that charging it for just 10 minutes will give it a full two hours of playback.

Battery life is good considering the 14.2mm driver size, and each earbud also has a pair of microphones and Nothing's advanced noise-cancelling technology it calls Clear Voice Technology 3.0 to help improve voice clarity during calls.

The Nothing Ear Open uses a three-point balance system and a silicone arm that extends behind the ear to keep the earbuds in place and help distribute the weight across the ear. However, some users may find it difficult to wear them with certain types of glasses that may interfere with the design of the earbuds.

The new headphones offer many features such as support for Bluetooth 5.3, the ability to connect to two devices together and switch between them, reduce audio delay time while playing games, integration with ChatGPT, and customizing the headphones via the Nothing app.

The Nothing Ear Open headphones are set to launch globally for $150.
