No one is safe: Hundreds of Qualcomm employees have been laid off

The tech industry continues to shrink in human capital with no clear end in sight. Qualcomm, a company best known for making Snapdragon processors for mobile devices, has implemented a new wave of layoffs that will once again shake the market in a year that has been extremely severe in terms of job destruction.

According to local media reports from San Diego, Qualcomm is planning to lay off 226 employees in the coming weeks. The deadline is set for November 13, meaning the city’s workforce will be reduced before the end of the year. This will be in addition to the 1,250 layoffs the company has already made in the past year.

These layoffs will directly impact 16 different offices located in San Diego, including those affiliated with the cybersecurity divisions. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether there will be layoffs that will directly impact these specific workers. On the other hand, these layoffs also contrast with the health of the company and the impressive income of the company, which recorded revenues of more than $ 35 billion in 2023, and its CEO Cristiano Amon received $ 23.5 million.

Microsoft is one of the companies that have laid off workers, having already laid off more than 10,000 workers in 2023, and this year, especially in the Xbox division, it has carried out large-scale closures and layoffs, the latest of which was 650 layoffs that Phil Spencer himself wanted to justify.

But there are also more companies, like Amazon, or Sony in the PlayStation division, and even Google, that make the trend of large companies reducing their workforce more of a reality.
