More Chinese giants are losing patience with the US TikTok is preparing to create chips using artificial intelligence
ByteDance, the company that brought TikTok, also wants its piece of the pie, though it may sound a bit odd, and wants to launch itself into the world of AI chips. They are rumored to be working closely with TSMC, the Taiwanese semiconductor giant, to design their own chips for 2026.
The reason? A pure trade war. The situation is extremely tense between the United States and China. And with Washington tightening the screws on the export of advanced chips, Chinese companies are looking for a plan B. ByteDance wants to rely less on Nvidia GPUs, which are ultimately still expensive and difficult to obtain due to restrictions.
But be careful because ByteDance’s strategy seems to follow the old adage “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” On the one hand, they’ve ordered thousands of Nvidia H20 chips, designed to comply with US regulations. On the other hand, they’re developing their own chips with TSMC. In short, they have a plan A, B, and even C.
And it seems they’re not alone in this race. Other Chinese companies, like Baidu, are also toying with the idea of in-house chips. In this particular case, if ByteDance succeeds, it could be a game changer. Not just for them, but for China’s entire AI industry.
In short, all this could turn the world situation 180 degrees. After all, imagine that the person who has always been in the background suddenly stops relying on the first. Things could change a lot.
