Is your computer's operating system having problems? If yes, the Windows 10 DISM tool lets you fix it without reinstalling. We explain what it is and how it works.

Are you a Windows 10 or 11 user? Then, your computer's operating system must have failed on more than one occasion, faced startup issues, execution problems, or the dreaded Blue Screen of Death.

In these cases it is difficult to determine what is wrong with the computer, so in the end we end up reinstalling the Windows operating system to solve the problems. However, in some cases, it is also possible to repair the system without reinstalling using the Windows DISM tool.

DISM stands for Deployment Image Servicing and Management, and as Microsoft explains in this link , it's a command-line tool that can be used to repair Windows, allowing you to fix problems caused by a corrupted system image without having to reinstall the entire operating system.

The Windows DISM tool is intended for use by advanced users or administrators. Below we explain step-by-step how to use it to find and fix errors in your operating system:

Type cmd in the search box, select the Command Prompt application, and click the Run as administrator option.

Now, the first thing you need to do is to check the health status of your computer. To do this, enter the following code:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth.

Wait a few seconds for the scan to complete. If any errors appear before it finishes, your computer may be damaged.

Next, run the ScanHealth process using this command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth. This will check the system for errors. Wait for the process to complete.

The next step is to run the RestoreHealth process, which will replace all corrupted OS components and deploy a fresh image on your computer. This process will take some time, so be patient. You can start by typing this command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

After using DISM, you need to use the SFC (System File Checker) tool, which checks the integrity of files and restores the health of your computer completely based on the image published by DISM. To do this, enter the command SFC /ScanNow

This way your computer will be as trouble-free as if you had installed a new Windows on it.
