Meta unveils Quest 3S virtual reality headset at a reduced price

Meta announced its latest VR headset, the Meta Quest 3S, at its Connect 2024 conference. The new headset offers a similar user experience to the flagship Quest 3, but at a more competitive price of $300.

According to Meta, the Quest 3S is aimed at users who are new to VR, as well as those looking to upgrade from previous Quest versions like the Quest and Quest 2 at a lower cost than before.

The Quest 3S features the full-color Passthrough mixed reality technology found in the Quest 3, allowing users to blend the virtual and real worlds together.

The glasses will benefit from the ongoing improvements Meta has made to its operating system, known as “Horizon OS,” throughout the year.

Key updates to the Quest 3S include improved support for 2D apps within VR, improved spatial audio quality, and sharper Passthrough visuals. Meta has also added a new Travel Mode that allows the headset to be used on the go.

In addition to entertainment applications such as virtual home theaters, the new glasses support the full Quest app library, including games such as the upcoming Batman VR game.

Meta announced that the gaming performance updates made to the Quest 3 will also apply to the Quest 3S, providing users with a superior visual experience and fast loading times.

In a related context, Meta also reduced the price of its advanced Quest 3 glasses to $500 for a 512GB capacity.
