LinkedIn faces competition from AI platform Osmos

Match Global has announced the launch of its AI-powered networking platform Osmos , setting itself an ambitious goal of overtaking LinkedIn as the preferred platform for tech professionals and entrepreneurs to meet like-minded individuals.

The new platform focuses on an AI-powered matchmaking engine that helps its users find meaningful connections and facilitate deep conversations.

LinkedIn has a strong grip as the most popular social networking site for professionals, though Osmos believes it has what it takes to chip away at that platform's dominance.

Osmos says LinkedIn made the mistake of shifting toward creative content and video in an attempt to boost user retention , and forgot about its original purpose, which was to help people create meaningful connections and relationships.

To support its claims, Osmos cites a study showing how only 25 percent of LinkedIn users used the platform to create new business partnerships.

This discovery seems to suggest that LinkedIn may no longer be as useful as it once was. This presents an opportunity for Osmos.

Natalia Cebotari, Osmos co-founder and CEO, who was previously chief strategy officer at Yandex, said LinkedIn was no longer enough to help people build real, meaningful relationships.

“LinkedIn is overloaded with cold communication and generic messaging, and most users feel lost, stemming from the platform’s failure to help users start real conversations,” she said.

Cibotari acknowledged that LinkedIn has been successful in job search and recruitment, but the focus on content and sales tools leaves no room for real, deep communication.

Osmos has an AI-powered matchmaking engine, and the platform explains that its goal is to bring together founders, investors, C-suite executives, developers, engineers, thought leaders, and others in fintech, venture capital, software, edtech, and other tech sectors.

The platform has been in beta testing mode for less than a year, and has attracted over 3,000 users, facilitating over 20,000 connections across the industry during that time.

Osmos' matchmaking engine automatically connects people based on their targeted requests, then collects feedback on its AI-powered suggestions to improve quality over time.

The process involves analyzing each user's account, interests, and needs, so you can connect them with individuals who have similar desires.

Once a promising contact is found, Osmos recommends users to reach out, and tells them why they should reach out.

If both users agree, a one-on-one conversation begins, so they can start talking and see if there is any room for collaboration.

The platform believes its matchmaking engine ensures a stream of meaningful matches, connecting like-minded people while avoiding distractions, such as social selling and recruiting, that have plagued other platforms.
