Lenovo Introduces a Laptop That Moves and Tracks Your Move with the Help of AI and Your Voice

Lenovo took advantage of the IFA kickoff to show off a laptop that can transform using voice commands. The computer, known as the Auto Twist AI PC, uses artificial intelligence to operate a motorized hinge that controls the display. With the help of the AI and your voice, the wearable can track your movements and rotate automatically.

The Auto Twist AI PC is Lenovo’s proof of concept for demonstrating its AI capabilities. Its design is inspired by old 2-in-1 laptops that used hinges to rotate the screen and place it above the keyboard. The manufacturer is committed to a PC that can respond to your voice commands, not just on the software level but also on the hardware level.

According to Lenovo, the Auto Twist AI PC tracks the user’s movements to ensure optimal screen visibility. This feature is especially useful during a video call, as it keeps the user front and center in remote meetings. The tracking idea is being used by the Echo Show.

As for voice recognition, Lenovo says the Auto Twist AI PC is controlled via natural language commands. Users can switch between modes simply by saying “laptop mode” and “tablet mode,” or shut down the PC by saying “shut down laptop.” Another important detail of the concept is that the lid will automatically close when you leave the laptop unused for a while.

Those who attended the laptop's demo agreed that the response time after a voice command has a slight delay. It takes a second or two for the system to process the instructions and activate the hinge, which takes longer to rotate and assume the desired position.

Lenovo told The Verge that it is experimenting with several concepts, many of which will likely never make it to market. The idea behind the Auto Twist AI PC is face tracking, which according to Lenovo is a full-fledged video conferencing system with a lot of accessibility capabilities. The manufacturer will explore different applications for this technology to integrate into its future devices.
