Huawei to launch public beta of HarmonyOS NEXT in October
Huawei has officially announced its plans to launch the public beta version of the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system on October 8, according to the Chinese company at its Huawei Connect 2024 media event.
This announcement comes as part of the company's efforts to launch the final version of this completely new system.
The public beta will allow ordinary users to experience HarmonyOS NEXT for the first time, and provide their feedback before the official launch.
It is worth noting that the HarmonyOS NEXT system has undergone several experimental stages over the past few months; Huawei launched the developer beta version after the HDC 2024 developer conference, and then opened the door to participation in the closed beta version for a large group of devices such as the Pura 70, Pocket 2, and others.
The first batch of devices eligible for the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta will include the Mate 60 series, Mate X5 series, and MatePad Pro 13.2. Huawei is expected to expand the list of participating devices in the future, including other versions such as the Pura 70 series, Pocket 2, MatePad Pro 11, and others.
Interested users can register for the public beta program through the My Huawei app, help Huawei improve the system, and contribute to its development.
HarmonyOS NEXT completely abandons the core libraries of Android, meaning users won’t be able to run Android apps on the system. However, Huawei claims that it currently provides more than 10,000 native apps for the system covering 18 different categories, meeting 99.9% of user needs in partnership with developers and major tech companies.
HarmonyOS NEXT will work as an integrated operating system across Huawei devices, and the company is launching its new system with optimistic statements that it has achieved in one year what Android and iOS have achieved in 17 years.
