Huawei introduces Huawei Mate XT the first phone that can be folded three times

Talking about foldable phones today is not at all strange. Practically all major brands have one, either in a clamshell format like the Galaxy Z Flip or in a book format like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, there are always companies that want more, and Huawei is one of them.

The Chinese company may have lost a lot of its global market share due to its crisis with Android, but that wasn't enough to stop surprising us so much. The proof? It has a phone with the best camera on the planet (the Pura 70 Ultra), but that pales in comparison to what it has come up with today, because it has just introduced the Huawei Mate XT, the first double-folding mobile phone on the planet.

It seems that Huawei wasn't satisfied with a foldable phone similar to the competition, so it decided to go further. The Mate XT is a mobile phone that transforms into a tablet, as its hinges allow it to display a huge screen that, when closed, looks like any other smartphone.

In fact, the triangular layout allows the Mate XT to have one OLED panel and not two like other foldables. This screen has a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz (LTPO), but its dimensions and resolution change depending on the number of folds:

- Triple mode (fully deployed): 10.2 inches with 3184 x 2232 pixels resolution.

- Dual mode (single folding): 7.9 inches with 2048 x 2232 pixels resolution.

- Single mode (fully folded): 6.4 inches, 1080 x 2232 pixels.

According to Huawei, its new hinge reduces the fold by up to 25%, which helps keep the thickness at bay (12.8mm when fully folded, a real feat for this triple fold). Additionally, the display is covered with the largest UTG glass on the market, which helps improve its resistance.

Aside from how impressed you'll likely be with its design and display, we have to say that Huawei didn't skimp on the rest of the hardware of this phone.

The processor is the Kirin 9010 5G, and it's accompanied by 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Of course, the operating system is Harmony OS 4.2, which comes with all its AI tools, but it's also an optimized version for this new screen format.

The rear cameras are the same as those on the Mate 60. An example is the 50MP main sensor with XMAGE technology that allows you to change the focal aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0.

In addition, it is equipped with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with up to 5.5x optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view. The front/inner camera is more modest: an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
