Huawei: HarmonyOS makes great leaps in progress
Huawei said its HarmonyOS operating system has made great leaps in progress and completed Android's 17-year journey in one year.
The Chinese telecom giant is keeping up with its competitors, despite the many challenges in every field. HarmonyOS NEXT may reach new heights after the stable release.
At the Huawei Connect 2024 event, Zhou Yonggang, President of Huawei Mobile Cloud, said that HarmonyOS completed the 17-year progress journey of other systems (Android and iOS) in one year, which is a great achievement for the company.
This rapid progress is thanks to the more than 1,000 partners who have joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem, including Ant Group, China UnionPay, and iFlytek.
Android's 17-year journey is indicative of its success rate in the operating system market.
Android and iOS offer features, customizations, and smart tools, along with AI capabilities, and it took these operating systems up to 17 years to reach their current state and achieve high success rates.
Apple released the first version of iOS in 2007, while Google released the first version of Android in 2008.
“HarmonyOS has achieved unexpectedly great success, and it was impossible to start developing HarmonyOS again from scratch, so Huawei chose to improve its software and upgrade it with advanced solutions,” Zhang said.
“HarmonyOS NEXT is much faster, smoother, and better than Android, and it has a microkernel that is three times more efficient than traditional Linux kernels,” he added.
At the same time, developers and partners have been a great support for the development of HarmonyOS, and it has made very rapid progress compared to other operating systems, with HarmonyOS now running on more than 900 million devices.
On the other hand, the number of developers registered in the Huawei Developer Alliance has reached 6.75 million, a 10-fold increase in 5 years, and Huawei has invested up to 6 billion yuan (over $850 million) every year to promote developer innovation.
“HarmonyOS does not compete for profits, sets no limits, and does not stop,” Zhang said. “The company insists on investing more than 6 billion yuan every year to support and encourage its developers to innovate.
HarmonyOS surpassed iOS in Q1 2024 in China. With new features and upgraded capabilities, HarmonyOS looks set to take the second place in the list of major mobile operating systems in China.
