Huawei and Chery launch Luxeed R7 to compete with Tesla Model Y
Luxeed, a brand backed by Huawei and Chery, has announced the R7 electric SUV, which is expected to be a real competitor to Tesla's Model Y in China.
The R7 is the second model from the Luxeed brand, and is an SUV coupe, although its overall design is similar to that of the first model, the S7 sedan.
The Luxeed R7 comes at a lower price than the Tesla, while offering a longer list of features.
Huawei and Chery are offering the Luxeed R7 in four different grades. The Ultra grade offers two electric motors with a power of 215 kW and 150 kW, while the other grades feature a single motor with a power of 215 kW.
The car is available with a battery with a power of 82 kWh and 100 kWh, which provides a range of 667 km and 802 km.
The car is based on Huawei's Giant Whale 800V platform. The Luxeed R7 features Huawei's Tuling Intelligent Architecture for intelligent road recognition.
Thanks to iVSE's intelligent vehicle situation awareness, the R7 is able to handle a variety of conditions, including off-road.
Using the world's first Active Cornering Control system, which uses braking, torque vectoring and torque control of the four-wheel dual-motor system, the road can be precisely tracked, reducing the effect of cornering.
The car also offers an Intelligent Hill Hold function that can adaptively control the vehicle's speed and reduce driver pedal intervention. This results in greater energy recovery and less brake heating.
The Luxeed R7 features a double wishbone suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. It also features a continuously variable damping system and air suspension.
Some trims offer the Qiankun ADS 3.0 vision-based driver assistance system, which supports features such as valet parking and summoning.
The car measures 4956 mm x 1981 mm x 1634 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. The car comes standard with 20-inch wheels, with an option for 21-inch wheels.
Some people associate the R7 with Tesla's Model Y, even though the R7 is 206mm longer, and even bigger than cars like the BMW X6.
The car comes with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch information screen, as well as rear entertainment screens. The entertainment system comes with Huawei's MagLink along with Huawei Sound.
It is worth noting that the car system uses Huawei's Harmony OS operating system. There is an 8.2-liter refrigerator in the center console.
The luggage compartment has a capacity of approximately 837 litres using a three-part design. With the seats folded down, the volume increases to 2,130 litres.
There is also a 52-litre front trunk, with a new opening system, where you can open the bonnet by tapping it twice.
When it comes to pricing, the Pro trim comes with an 82-kilowatt battery and costs $36,950, while the Ultra trim comes with a 100-kilowatt battery and costs $48,300, while the Max trim comes with an 82-kilowatt battery and costs $42,650, and the 100-kilowatt battery and costs $45,500.
