How Will Apple Intelligence Change the Way You Interact with Siri on iPhone?

Apple has promised to launch a smarter version of its virtual assistant Siri this fall as part of the iOS 18 update. Siri will get a bunch of new features and updates thanks to the company's own artificial intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, and a partnership with OpenAI.

From integration with  ChatGPT to the ability to type instead of talking to Siri, there are a lot of ways the updated Siri coming soon to iPhones will change the way you interact with your phone.

Here are some of the changes that will happen to the way you interact with your iPhone thanks to the updated Siri assistant:

You'll be able to interact with Siri as if you were interacting with ChatGPT:

You’ll soon be able to leverage Siri’s integration with OpenAI ’s ChatGPT bot to get answers to specific questions. For example, if you need recipe ideas for a meal using some ingredients you have in your home, you can ask Siri, and it will automatically send that information to ChatGPT to generate some options for you.

You can include images with the questions you ask ChatGPT via Siri, or ask questions about documents or PDFs. For example: Let’s say you come across a flower with a distinctive shape while walking but don’t know its name. You can take a picture of it and ask Siri for its name and basic information.

You will have a personalized experience:

The updated Siri will understand your personal style, which means it will be able to take unique actions that are personally relevant to you. Siri will be able to use the information available on your device to find what you're looking for.

For example: If a friend sends you a recipe in a text or email, you can ask Siri to pull up the recipe you received a few days ago. Or if you need to quickly find your passport number when booking a flight, you can ask Siri to pull the number from your email or photos and automatically enter it into the passport number field.

You will be able to talk to an assistant that understands more natural language:

Siri will become more capable of understanding natural language, and even if you stumble over your words when talking to it, it will still be able to understand you. Additionally, you can ask Siri follow-up questions without having to start a new conversation.

For example: If you ask Siri where your next business meeting is, she will answer immediately, and you can then follow up by asking “What’s the weather like there?” without having to say the name of the location.

You will be able to communicate with Siri by typing:

Currently, Siri can only be communicated with via voice commands, but with Apple Intelligence, you'll be able to type to Siri when you don't want to speak out loud.

The option to type to Siri is useful when you are in a place where you cannot speak out loud. Or when you are in a noisy environment where Siri cannot hear you well, in these cases you can type to Siri what you want.

You will be able to ask Siri about any Apple device:

The updated Siri has more information about Apple products and services, so if you have a question about any Apple device and the new features added to it, you can ask Siri for help.

For example: You can ask Siri how to schedule a text message to send later. Siri will give you step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

You can automate many routine tasks:

Siri can understand what's on your iPhone screen and take action based on what you're currently viewing on your device. For example, if your friend texts you a new address, you can ask Siri to add the address to their contact card stored in the Phone app.

On the other hand, Siri can take actions within different apps; you can ask Siri to enhance a photo of you in the Photos app, then ask it to send it to a specific person via the Messages app, and Siri will be able to take those actions in both apps on its own.
