Have you ever left a virtual meeting feeling like you missed something important? It’s happened to all of us, and just when you thought there was no way to remember every detail, Google Meet introduces the new “Take notes for me” feature  . Powered by Google’s artificial intelligence (AI), this tool promises to make our lives a little easier by generating detailed summaries of meetings.

Imagine you’re in an important meeting with your boss, colleagues, or clients. You know how these meetings go: There’s a lot of talking, a lot of ideas floating around, and at the end of the day, you end up with a bunch of disorganized notes, or worse, no notes at all. That’s where “Take notes for me” comes in. The feature, which Google launched for the web version of Meet in August, uses the power of Google’s generative AI to generate a detailed summary of the meeting.

While this tool was initially limited to the web version, it seems that Google has more ambitious plans. A recent review of the Gmail app revealed that this feature will soon be available on Android smartphones. As discovered, the feature will create a new document with the summary, save it to the owner’s Google Drive account, and attach it to the calendar invite.

Of course, not everything is perfect. This feature won’t be available to everyone. Only users with a Google Workspace subscription like Gemini Enterprise or Gemini Education Premium will be able to access the “Take notes for me” feature. For now, it’s only available in English. It’s a start, but Google clearly intends to expand support to more languages in the future.

I think this is a huge improvement for those who already use Google Meet as their primary virtual meeting tool. In my experience, it can be frustrating trying to remember all the important points in a long conversation, especially when there are multiple voices in the room (or on the screen). With this feature, one can focus more on the conversation and less on taking hasty notes. But I also have a question: Are we ready to rely on a machine to summarize our meetings? I’m not saying I don’t trust the technology, but we’ll have to see how it works on a daily basis.

What’s certain is that tools like Note Taking for Me are here to stay. They help us be more efficient, allow us to focus on what really matters, and who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back fondly on when we had to take our notes by hand.
