Exam Horror: A ChatGPT-connected, Wi-Fi-enabled exam cheating calculator
Although it is impossible to use a mobile phone during an exam, many teachers and educational institutions allow the use of calculators.
One of the most widely used calculators is the TI-84, a fairly common device in the educational market, and now someone has managed to include a custom modification that powers it with AI functions.
YouTuber ChromaLock has achieved the unthinkable: he's added an invisible mod to the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus C versions of the calculator, giving them internet access, ChatGPT functionality, and even Wi-Fi support.
It is an undetectable model that can bypass any anti-cheating protocol in educational institutions.
Specifically, the TI-32 calculator is one that uses the ESP32 C3 microcontroller to emulate another TI-84, connecting the two devices via WiFi.
At first glance, it looks like a regular TI-84 graphing calculator, but using a specific command, you can open special functions through the calculator's text interface.
In the video, he shows us how you can use this modification to enter complex math problems and have ChatGPT solve them or quickly get vocabulary definitions through it.
Users can also create custom apps, such as the camera app that Modler is currently testing.
Uses for this modified calculator, which you can see on its GitHub page , include changing Wi-Fi settings, supporting colored images, ChatGPT responses, web navigation, custom menus, and much more.
