Elon Musk Announces Strange Change to X: Users You Block Will Be Able to See Your Posts
Elon Musk has gotten users used to big changes since he bought X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, and some updates have been more controversial than others. The billionaire’s latest idea is to tweak the social network’s account ban system.
A user known as @nima_owji first spotted the news and explained the changes the platform is working on. “X is about to remove the block button, which means that if the account is public, posts will be visible to blocked users,” a post on his account read.
Elon Musk himself confirmed the news on X, as is his wont. The block button will be gone, as it is known, with blocked users being able to see posts equally to public accounts. The platform’s CEO explained that the feature will continue to block all types of user interaction with the account that blocked them.
Blocked people saw a “You are blocked” message when they tried to log into the profile of the person who blocked them. Previously, this prevented them from seeing replies, multimedia content, receiving private messages, and seeing their followers and the list of people the user was following.
Some have not looked favorably on the developments X is working on, as the block button will prevent users from interacting with someone else's posts, but the ability to see them could increase spam and harassment within the social network from secondary accounts.
