DJI Announces Osmo Action 5 Pro Action Camera
DJI has responded to GoPro’s new Hero 13 lineup with the Osmo Action 5 Pro . The company is justifying the pro name with a new image sensor that promises improved image quality and low-light performance.
It also features the ability to capture super slow motion at 1080p resolution at 960 frames per second, and a new power-efficient chip that allows up to four hours of continuous recording on a single charge.
The company has equipped the camera with a pressure sensor that records depth, duration and height data underwater to ensure your safety, while a color temperature sensor captures true colors underwater. You can even set the camera to automatically start recording when submerged and stop after surfacing.
The camera gets a new generation DJI 1/1.3-inch sensor that can capture 40MP still images and a 13.5-stop dynamic range for capturing 4K HDR and low-light video at 60fps.
DJI delivers 960fps slow-motion by capturing up to 240fps and then making an intelligent guess about how to create fill frames on both sides.
The claim comes from recording up to four hours of continuous use from the 1,950mAh battery in a lab at 25 degrees Celsius while recording 1080p video at 24fps with Rocksteady stabilization turned on, Wi-Fi turned off, and the front and rear displays on.
DJI says the Osmo Action 5 Pro operates in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 45°C, with runtime dropping to a minimum of 3.6 hours.
DJI has replaced the Osmo Action 4's two LCD displays with two OLED displays on the front and back.
It also comes with 47GB of internal storage, which means you can use the new action camera right out of the box, without the need for a microSD card.
The Osmo Action 5 Pro supports a set of DJI Mic 2 Bluetooth microphones for high-rate audio recording.
Other improvements include water resistance up to 20 meters, the ability to shoot in 4K at 120fps, support for Wi-Fi 6, a USB 3.0 port, a 360-degree shutter, and a new feature that can focus on and track a human subject using machine learning algorithms.
The action camera doesn't offer GPS, though location data and sports tracking can be added when paired with devices like DJI's Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth remote.
DJI is offering the Osmo Action 5 Pro action camera starting at $350 for the standard kit that includes the camera itself, a horizontal and vertical protective frame, a battery, a mount, a base, a Type-C to Type-C PD cable, a rubber lens protector, a glass lens cover, and an anti-slip pad.
