BlueSky now has over 10 million users.

Social network BlueSky said it now has more than 10 million users, largely due to the network’s rapid growth in recent weeks after Elon Musk’s X shut down in Brazil.

Last month, Brazil's Supreme Court banned X in the country and fined users who access the platform using VPNs.

After that, other social networks, such as BlueSky and Threads, rose in popularity. Currently, these apps are in the top ten in the App Store and Google Play rankings for the social media category in Brazil.

“If you’re reading this, you’re one of the first ten million BlueSky users,” the platform said in a post . When you click on the celebration icon on the platform’s homepage, you can see your BlueSky membership number and share it with your friends.

BlueSky quickly gained up to 3 million users within days of X being banned in Brazil, and its total user count surpassed 9 million earlier this month.

The US-based decentralized platform said more than 85 percent of new users were from Brazil.

Last week, BlueSky said it saw record activity, and the platform experienced some server crashes as people signed up in large numbers.

After being invite-only for about a year, BlueSky opened its platform to all users in February.

Meanwhile, Meta-owned rival Threads has grown to more than 200 million users.

Last week, BlueSky began allowing users to post videos up to 60 seconds long.

It also introduced self-moderation tools, such as controlling who can quote a post, hiding replies, and the ability to mute words for a set period of time.

BlueSky was founded in 2021 by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, which Elon Musk renamed X after acquiring it in 2022.
