Amazon Launches AI Video Generator for Ads

Amazon has launched an AI-powered video generator that's only for advertisers at the moment, and is somewhat limited in what it can do.

The e-commerce giant unveiled Video Generator, which turns a single product image into video demos of that product after a certain amount of processing.

Amazon says the tool can curate custom AI-generated videos to showcase product benefits at no additional cost.

“Videos generated by Video Generator leverage Amazon’s unique retail insights to bring a product’s story to life in ways that are relevant to customers,” Amazon wrote in a blog post .

Amazon's vice president of advertising, Jay Richman, said the company plans to fine-tune the Video Generator tool, which is still in beta for select advertisers in the US and specifically for Sponsored Brands campaigns, over the next few months before a broad release.

“Video Generator is a new innovation that leverages generative AI to inspire creativity and deliver additional value to both advertisers and shoppers. We are working to deliver generative AI uses that allow advertisers to craft visually engaging, high-performing ads,” he added.

Amazon also announced a Live Photo feature that generates a few seconds of animated GIFs from a still frame.

This feature is part of Image Generator, Amazon's AI image generation suite for marketers.

The clips generated by Video Generator are between 6 seconds and 9 seconds long, and come in 720p resolution at 24 frames per second.

The Video Generator automatically generates clips based on a product image inspired by the product and its details, and takes up to five minutes to generate clips, and users get four different types to choose from.

Video Generator outputs follow the same basic formula, two scenes with main titles, background music, and a call to action.

The font and soundtrack can be customized, as well as the brand logo that appears in the upper right corner of the frame.

Amazon's expansion into generative video comes as other companies are launching their own video generation technologies.

Startups Runway and Luma launched generative video APIs this month, and Google says it has started integrating its Veo video model into YouTube Shorts.

Adobe has promised to have a video generator available as part of its Creative Suite platform by the end of the year, and OpenAI is expected to release its Sora technology this fall.
