A new Emirati scientific achievement Invention of a revolutionary antenna system for precise control of radiation

Researchers from the United Arab Emirates University ( UAEU ) have achieved a remarkable scientific achievement by obtaining a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for their invention of an advanced antenna system for precise control of radiation transmission.

This innovation is a qualitative leap in the field of communications technology , and is the result of the tireless efforts of Dr. Mahmoud Fathy Al-Ahmad and Dr. Abdel Halim Jallad from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Communications at the Faculty of Engineering.

The principle of operation of the new system:

The new system is based on an innovative idea of using materials with switchable resistance. By applying an electrical voltage to these materials, the direction and intensity of the radiation emitted by the antenna can be precisely controlled. This means that the radiation can be directed in two opposite directions independently and with high accuracy, opening up new horizons in the field of communications.

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ahmad explained that the idea of the project confirms the commitment of faculty members and researchers at the university to contribute pioneering research to drive technological innovation in light of the stimulating and supportive environment provided by the university for creativity.

He pointed out that this project, which has been patented by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, has great implications for various applications that require precise management of antenna radiation, and the ability to change the direction and intensity of radiation transmission through the use of switchable resistive materials, which will open new horizons in the fields of digital development and communications, especially in environments where traditional antenna systems may be limited.

For his part, Dr. Abdul Halim Jallad pointed out that this project includes two antennas directed in opposite directions and methods for controlling the transmission of radiation through a multi-layer antenna structure, each directed in the opposite direction.

He added that what distinguishes this technology is its use of materials with switchable resistance to precisely control radiation transmission, by applying a DC voltage to the conductive electrode layers. The system can switch between high and low resistance states, allowing radiation to be transmitted in opposite directions simultaneously or selectively. This innovative approach provides advanced control over signal direction and intensity, paving the way for more efficient and adaptable communications systems.

System advantages:

  • Precise Control: The system provides precise control over radiation direction and intensity, making it ideal for applications that require precise management of wireless signals.
  • High flexibility: The system can be used in a wide range of applications, including: wireless communications , radar, and medical devices.
  • High Efficiency: The system is highly energy efficient, making it environmentally friendly.

The importance of this achievement:

This innovation is a testament to the scientific progress witnessed by the United Arab Emirates, and confirms the university’s commitment to supporting scientific research and innovation. It also contributes to strengthening the country’s position as a leading center for innovation in the field of information and communications technology.
