The Microsoft Office suite has been with us for decades, offering some of the most popular and widely used programs. It is the ultimate reference in the office software sector and here we find well-known applications such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
For some time now, I am sure many of you have been used to purchasing a license for the latest version of the Office suite. However, for some time now, Microsoft has been betting on its own subscription model which they called Microsoft 365. However, a few weeks ago, they made the latest suite they developed and launched available to everyone, and we are talking about Office 2024.
This follows the usual model where we buy the license and have it forever. It should be noted that in the mentioned subscription model Microsoft 365 we pay monthly or annually for the duration of using the Office programs. If we stop paying for the subscription, we will no longer be able to access the applications for use.

Instead of paying the full cost of an Office 2024 license, we can opt for the open source proposal or LibreOffice. It is a very similar suite and we will not have to pay a single dollar for it.
- The subscription cost is much lower.
It may also happen that we need to use Office and all its functions for a certain period of time. In this case it is better to pay for a Microsoft 365 subscription for a month or two, it will be much cheaper.
- Office 2024 will be outdated.
While the Microsoft 365 monthly subscription receives continuous updates, there will come a time when Office 2024 will become obsolete and we will have to buy the next version, if it is released. This is something that does not happen with Microsoft 365, where we will always have the latest version.
