Wi-Fi 7 has been officially launched
Wi-Fi 7 has been officially launched.. It will allow you to browse at a speed of 46 GB per second and find out why it will revolutionize the Internet
The Wi-Fi Alliance has officially made Wi-Fi 7 official in a statement. The new type of connection is officially here, although we have been talking about compatible devices for almost a year. This is the new version of Wi-Fi, which will improve on previous versions in terms of speed, stability and reduced latency.
While it may seem obvious, we should clarify that Wi-Fi 7 is an evolution of Wi-Fi 6, its predecessor. However, an intermediate version called Wi-Fi 6E was launched, which was more powerful than 6. We will explain the improvements below, but first we will point out that the full name of Wi-Fi 7 is IEE 802.11be, while the standard for Wi-Fi 6 (and also 6E) was IEE 802.11ax.
The most surprising thing about Wi-Fi 7 is that it will allow browsing at speeds of 46 gigabytes per second. However, there is still a lot of time for this to happen, because one thing is what will be theoretically possible, and another thing is what we have today, in the short term. The first thing we will notice, and which will have a direct impact on our lives, is the use of concurrent bands.
Wi-Fi 7 integrates the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz Wi-Fi bands, like previous Wi-Fi networks. The difference is that you can use several at once, that is, you can use a real tri-band. Previous versions were not able to, since we would have to choose one or make the router itself identify it. The possibility of using them via Wi-Fi 7 is possible thanks to the Multi Link Operation (MLO) technology, which will also significantly reduce disconnections.
On the other hand, it expands its bandwidth and extends its channels up to 320MHz. The higher the bandwidth, the more data the channels can share, and therefore, you will be able to browse faster. It will also be able to transmit 12 bits instead of 10, thanks to the 4096-QAM modulation. The data streams go from 8 to 16 due to the improved MIMO system, which translates into greater stability.
The Wi-Fi Alliance is the organization that launches and regulates Wi-Fi systems. Along with version 7, it announced that there are already 18 certified devices — such as processors or routers — that can now display the new Wi-Fi 7 logo. That doesn’t mean that other products — like Amazon’s $700 eero Max 7 router — are currently compatible, because official status is one thing, reality is another. In any case, the list of certified devices will be expanded soon.
The organization took advantage of the CES 2024 exhibition, which was held in Las Vegas, to make the announcement. It is one of the largest technology exhibitions on the planet, and its full name is the Consumer Electronics Show. It will be held from January 8 to 12. In it, major technology companies will showcase their products and developments.
