YouTube and experts have tried it. It removes water from your phone with a magical sound.

The beach and pool are the biggest summer cell phone hazards, and some people have seen it firsthand. If your phone gets wet without any water protection, it's likely to get damaged even if you use the classic rice trick.

A YouTube video promises to get water out of your phone and keeps gaining views, but some users don't quite believe it works, but the sound it makes allows you to remove water from your phone's speaker.

Nearly half of the 45 million visits are from people who got their phones wet in the shower or bathtub and claimed the video sound worked, so iFixit conducted an experiment to prove it.

Major manufacturers like Apple, Google, or Samsung don’t have a support page explaining what to do if your phone gets wet, so customers have to use their own tricks. The video uses the lowest tone the speaker can play at the highest volume to push the liquid out, a technique the Apple Watch uses.

The iFixit guys ran the above YouTube video on all four phones after submerging them in water and surprisingly, it worked. All four phones immediately expelled a few drops of water, though the effect only lasted a few seconds. The Pixel 7 Pro was the only one to remove all of the liquid inside it.

Why does water come out of the speaker? Cell phones are designed so that liquids do not reach the essential parts and the most common entry point is the USB port, buttons or SIM card slot. Speakers have the ability to move air with sound, so they are an effective way to remove water from your phone.

The video works and you have nothing to lose by trying it, “but I don’t think it’s a definitive solution or a way to get all the liquid out,” says Ritter. The speaker expels surface liquid, but the sound has no effect if it reaches deep cavities like a SIM card slot.

Now you know when your phone is wet play the video above at high volume and you will see the result it expels water from your phone
