Samsung announces 7-year support and updates for its TVs

Samsung has announced a new firmware update policy for its AI-enabled smart TVs. The company will now offer 7 years of free Tizen OS updates for 2024 models and some 2023 models, significantly extending the support period from the current two or three years, which is typical for most manufacturers.

The initiative aims to strengthen Samsung's position in the TV market, where competition is fierce with brands such as Hisense and TCL. Samsung TV chief Young Seok-woo said that with this new policy, the company intends to expand its market share with its Chinese rivals.

Earlier this year, Samsung rival LG announced plans to update several 2022 TV models over the “next five years.” It’s not yet known whether Samsung’s TV updates will apply to models before 2023, but the initiative has already received positive feedback.

Samsung aims to provide its customers with new features and greater security for a longer period, making its TVs more attractive for long-term use.
