Raspberry Pi 5 | New Version Now Available for $50
Good news for fans of small single-board computers! The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced a new version of the Raspberry Pi 5 with 2GB of RAM, for a lower price of $50.
Raspberry Pi 5 Specifications
The lower memory doesn’t necessarily mean a loss in capabilities, but rather that this new version is aimed at tasks that don’t require a lot of RAM. Eben Upton, CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, confirmed that the device is “functionally identical to its predecessor.” When the Raspberry Pi 5 launched last year, the lower-capacity 4GB version was priced at $60, while the 8GB version was priced at $80. That means the new 2GB version offers savings of up to $10 compared to the 4GB Raspberry Pi 4.
The 2GB version may not be ideal for running AI apps or using it as a full-fledged media center, but Upton says many customers will find it “works perfectly” for less memory-demanding uses.
More information about Raspberry Pi 5
The Raspberry Pi 5 is currently the most powerful single-board computer from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, featuring an RP1 I/O controller designed by the foundation, as well as a quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4 GHz. In order to save cost on the 2 GB version, the foundation built an improved version of the processor that removes unnecessary features. The result is a cheaper chip with the same features, including a PCI Express 2.0 interface.
