Leaks confirm that the iPhone 16 series will arrive on time in September, despite the new “Apple Intelligence” operating system being delayed until October, and therefore Apple will resort to both Samsung and LG to produce the iPhone 16 screen.

Samsung and LG have started producing the iPhone 16 screen

According to sources in Korea, Apple has ordered 80 million panels from Samsung and 43 million from LG, and iPhone 16 shipments this year are expected to be around 90 million units, which means the company ordered about 30% more panels than that. The supply chain in Korea confirms that both Samsung and LG are currently producing panels normally according to the volume of this order, and the two companies will benefit from Apple's orders, with performance improving in the second half of this year.

The Korean supply chain believes that the iPhone 16 series will be the first to ship with the new “Apple Intelligence” operating system, which will convince many to upgrade to these models, thus creating “massive demand” for them.

LG will benefit even more from this, as its panel supply will increase by about 10 million panels compared to last year, taking more than 30% of the share it shares with Samsung. This year is also said to be the first time LG has implemented a production schedule without delays, which should also contribute to improved performance.

In 2022 and 2023, LG’s delays in starting mass production of OLED panels for the iPhone have left Samsung as the sole supplier of initial volume at launch.

Samsung’s numbers, on the other hand, haven’t increased significantly (when talking about Apple’s iPhone orders) compared to previous years, but it has a larger share of panels for the Pro and Pro Max phones, which are more expensive, so its revenue is expected to increase. Of all the panels Samsung supplies, those for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max account for about 60%.

As for the Chinese company BOE, it seems to be having problems getting approval to supply the iPhone 16 family, so it may sit this generation out.

iPhone 16 Display: Mass Production Battle

The phone's screen is one of its most important components, and for the upcoming iPhone 16 series, it seems that the battle will be strong between the two giants of screen manufacturing, Samsung and LG, as the two companies have already begun mass production of panels to meet the expected demand for the new iPhones, as Apple expects record sales this year.

LG leads the race

LG is expected to be the biggest beneficiary of this competition, as it will significantly increase its market share compared to last year, and it is planning a production schedule free of delays, which will enhance its chances of competing.

Samsung maintains its position

Despite not seeing much growth in the number of panels supplied to Apple, Samsung has a larger market share in the Pro and Pro Max phone segment, which will lead to increased revenue.

BOE's future is unclear

Chinese company BOE's participation in the production of iPhone 16 displays remains uncertain, as it faces challenges in obtaining the necessary approvals.
