Initially, MEGA will show a message indicating a “limited transfer quota.” If you select “Continue downloading,” you'll be able to bypass this notification. Once the download limit has been exceeded, a “Transfer quota exceeded” pop-up will appear.

Fortunately, there are several techniques available to eliminate the MEGA download restrictions, enabling you to download files of any size on Windows 10/11, iPhone, or Android devices.

Methods for Evading Mega Download Restrictions

Below are three approaches to bypassing Mega's download limitations, allowing you to download large files without any restrictions.

Utilizing a VPN

Mega tracks your free traffic by IP address, which means that MEGA checks how much data you are sending using your IP address. If you are seen to have exceeded your sending limit,  you will be asked to wait  2 hours, and this time will continue to increase. You can hide your IP and many other activities online  using 

  VPN. You can also search anonymously. There are a few things to keep in mind when using a VPN app to bypass restrictions. 

 

 If you reach the download limit while downloading a large file or a file with a lot of storage, you should wait until the download limit is reached and then continue the download or start a new process. If you do not reset the limit, you will have to  start over. 

 

 If you used a VPN to download small files or  have already used your account  to download files and now want to download another file, close the MEGAsync app, re-enable the VPN, and restart the MEGAsync app. . 

 

 For users who will be using a free VPN, we recommend switching to a paid VPN, as MEGAsync will try to use  your VPN connection to try to download files as fast as possible.

MegaBasterd – Mega Downloader

Numerous tools exist for acquiring files from Mega. While there is a command-line option, its complexity may deter users. Therefore, we suggest opting for MegaBasterd.

This program serves as an unofficial, cross-platform, open-source downloader and uploader specifically designed for MEGA files. Additionally, it enables video streaming capabilities. Thanks to its intelligent proxy settings, you can circumvent MEGA's daily download limitations.

To overcome the "Transfer quota exceeded" message on Mega, follow these steps:

Begin by downloading the most recent version of Java for Windows from this link and install it on your computer.
Next, obtain MegaBasterd – Mega Downloader from Github. This software is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. You can select the executable file that corresponds with your operating system. (For my tests on Windows, I downloaded the Windows Portable Zip file.)

Once you have the zip file, extract it with either WinRar or 7Zip.
Then, navigate to the extracted folder, right-click on the “MegaBasterd” batch file, and select Run as administrator. (Ensure that Java is installed; failing to do so will prevent the application from launching.)

You may be asked to create an API key; click NO. (Without an API key, you can bypass MEGA's terms of use.) 

 On the File menu, click Settings, and then click Settings. You can change the download location by clicking Change.

Scroll down to locate the option “Use SmartProxy” and activate it. To circumvent the daily download restriction on Mega, you need to input your proxy information. Failing to do so will prevent you from downloading files exceeding 5GB.

To obtain the proxy information, visit a website that provides free proxy lists. Search for “US Proxy List” on Google and select the top link. From that page, copy the proxy information and paste it into the SmartProxy area.

Please note that proxies are only active for limited durations, which is why we have not listed any proxies here.

Next, input the proxy details using the format outlined below. (Refer to the screenshot for clarification.)

Once you have filled in the proxy information, remember to click Save.

Please note that if desired, you can input a MEGA API key within the advanced settings. A URL for generating the API key can be found on the advanced settings page; simply open that page and select "Create an App." Once you complete the required information, an API key will be provided to you. However, it's important to clarify that entering an API key is not necessary for downloading files, as this requirement is only to ensure compliance with their terms.

Afterward, exit the settings window. Next, copy the URL of the MEGA file you intend to download, along with the link for the root folder. You’ll have the option to decide which specific file to download later on. Now, choose "File" and then click on "New Download." Paste the MEGA file link into the provided space and then hit the "Let’s dance, baby" button.

Now select the file you want to download and click Let's dance baby again. If you don't want to download, you can delete some files. 

 

 

 Sometimes the download stops, but that's okay. It will take a few minutes for your file to download. No need to close the application; if the download has stopped, please wait  a bit.

Cloudflare WARP

I personally favor Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 with WARP. This service is a DNS resolver that is open to the public and managed by Cloudflare, while WARP functions as a Virtual Private Network (VPN), allowing users to surf the web privately. It is completely free and does not contain any advertisements.

The Cloudflare WARP application allows you to bypass the download limit just once. Unlike typical VPNs, this one does not have location-switching capabilities.

Consequently, WARP can be useful for downloading files that are around 10GB in size. If you need to transfer larger files, consider using a different VPN service or one of the previously mentioned alternatives.
