Google Discovers Four Critical Vulnerabilities in Chrome: Update Your Browser ASAP
Google Chrome is the most widely used browser in the world. Its success is due to its great performance, as it runs very fast and has a wide range of tools. However, that does not exempt it from being exposed to vulnerabilities from time to time. Its developers have recently found four and have already released an update to fix them.
Google didn’t provide much detail about what the Chrome vulnerabilities were. In a Chrome releases blog post , they explained that two of the fixes patched the Skia graphics library. This is used by both Chrome and Chromium to render graphics on the platform. There, they found two vulnerabilities, named CVE-2024-8198 and CVE-2024-8193, which are considered high risk.
The reason Google doesn’t want to disclose more information about these vulnerabilities is because they want to avoid complications for their customers. They explain on the GROM update page that “access to bug details and links may remain restricted until most users receive an update with a fix.”
Normally, your browser should automatically update to the latest version. However, to make sure it does so and you are not at risk, it is recommended to go to chrome://settings/help where the browser will update automatically.
It is worth noting that the bugs came from Chromium and not directly from Chrome. There are other browsers based on Chromium, such as Brave, Microsoft Edge, Opera, DuckDuckGo, and Vivaldi. At the moment, they have not yet fixed these bugs with security patches, but we hope they do so very soon.
