Geekbench AI: A new tool to measure the performance of your phone or computer in artificial intelligence

Different devices will have different AI performance. The power of the CPU, GPU, and black engines, if any, as well as the amount of power available and many other variables directly affect a device’s ability to run AI models efficiently. How do devices with so many variables compare? With the new Geekbench AI tool.

Geekbench, a program already known for its performance benchmarks, has officially launched Geekbench AI, an application specifically designed to evaluate the capabilities of devices in machine learning, deep learning, and other AI-focused workloads.

The app is able to analyze the performance of the device under a wide variety of workloads. We can, for example, evaluate performance at different levels of precision: single precision, half precision, and quantitative data. This is an important distinction, because different AI tasks require different levels of precision, and not all devices handle these levels in the same way.

After running the test, the tool provides us with a three-part score that reflects this diversity, giving us a more complete view of the devices’ performance. In addition to performance scores, Geekbench AI also includes an accuracy measure for each test.

In terms of benchmarking, Geekbench AI takes advantage of several new frameworks to more accurately simulate workloads.

Synthetic testing, like the ones before us, doesn’t always reliably reflect what a device should encounter on a day-to-day basis. However, the ability of Primate Labs’ Geekbench tools to get as close as possible to these use cases has made its applications and results a benchmark. A benchmark we can now use to compare the power of different devices in the field of artificial intelligence.

Geekbench AI is available for free on multiple platforms, including iOS, macOS, Windows, Android, and Linux. Additionally, we will soon be able to see and compare results across different devices.
