China Bans Apple's MagSafe Chargers Over This Problem
MagSafe chargers are one of the most notable products that Apple has launched in the market in recent years. However, as unbelievable as it may seem, China has banned the MagSafe charger.
As reported by the South China Morning Post, the measure was issued by the authorities of the Asian country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The decision will come into effect from September 1 this year. We will explain what this measure means immediately.
Chinese regulators have banned Apple’s MagSafe charger to prevent interference with the wireless operations normally carried out by the aviation industry. At the same time, they are seeking to “maintain the order of the waves.”
From now on, the only wireless chargers, smartphones and laptops that will be recognized are those operating on the following frequencies: 100-148.5 kHz, 6765-6795 kHz and 13553-13567 kHz. In addition, they must have a nominal transmission power not exceeding 80 watts.
Apple's MagSafe chargers offer 15W wireless charging based on the MagSafe and Qi2 standards, which operate at 360kHz, a frequency outside the range allowed under this new China measure.
On the other hand, China has banned the domestic production or import of wireless chargers that do not meet these requirements. The good news for residents of this country who use the Apple MagSafe charger is that chargers sold before September 1 will not be banned.
At the moment, it is not known whether the American company plans to modify its MagSafe wireless chargers to comply with this regulation, but it is likely to happen not only because of how important the Chinese market is, but because it would not be the first time that Apple has modified its products to comply with the decisions of a regulatory body.
A good example of this is when they launched the iPhone 15 with a USB-C port instead of the classic Lightning port that Apple phones and tablets usually use. They did this in compliance with EU regulations that require all mobile phones sold within the Union’s territory to have this port.
