What is the narrative?

It has been rumored that Apple intends to increase production for the next iPhone 16 series, with a concentration on the Pro and Pro Max variants. This year, the tech giant wants to produce about 90.1 million iPhones, which is a little more than last year's goal of 86.2 million handsets. Based on information gleaned from sources within Apple's supply chain, the Korean media publication The Elec made this information public.

Pro Max is expected to rule

With 37% of the total output, the Pro Max models are expected to dominate Apple's production plans. This is equivalent to about 33.2 million devices, which is a big increase above the 24.2 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units produced last year. Production of the regular 16 Pro models is also anticipated to increase, with an estimated 26.6 million units produced this year compared to 21.8 million units produced last year for the iPhone 15 Pro models.

One-third of the entire manufacturing will consist of non-pro varieties.

Three-quarters of Apple's overall output of the iPhone 16 series is expected to consist of non-Pro models. Production of the regular iPhone 16 is expected to increase somewhat this year from 21.8 million units to 24.5 million units, as compared to previous year. However, compared to the eight million units of the iPhone 15 Plus that were originally slated for manufacturing, only roughly 5.8 million units of the iPhone 16 Plus model will be produced.

Demand may cause plans to change.

Apple's production schedule is flexible and subject to alter in response to consumer demand. There have been reports that Apple may eventually replace the Plus model with a different iPhone model due to the product's declining popularity. Given that the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are among the company's most costly models and might have higher profit margins, increasing manufacturing of these devices could improve income for Apple.
