Samsung Galaxy Ring price, features and specifications after launch
Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Ring at the Samsung Unpacked 2024 conference held on July 10. It is the first smart ring launched by the company and it resembles Samsung smart watches, but of course it lacks its smart screen. The ring tracks sleep rate, heart rate, blood oxygen, body temperature, and exercise level by applying artificial intelligence technologies in the Samsung Health application.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is expected to be a major competitor to the Oura Ring, the leader in the smart ring market, but in any case, the Samsung smart ring looks to be among the best fitness trackers available right now. You'll need a Samsung phone to use the ring, while the Oura Ring works with Android and iPhone. The Samsung Galaxy Ring comes in three colors (black, silver, gold) and is available for pre-order now for $399.
Samsung Galaxy Ring release date
The first official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Ring was made at the Galaxy Unpacked Summer 2024 conference, which took place on July 10th with pre-orders for the ring opening on the same day with an expected shipping date of late July.
The Galaxy Ring first appeared — but briefly — at Unpacked 2024, alongside the Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra, with no initial details on a launch date or features. The company then showed off the ring at Mobile World Conference in February without providing additional details. Samsung trademarked the Galaxy Ring name in February 2023.

Samsung Galaxy Ring Design
The ring is available in eight sizes — specifically ring sizes 5 to 12 — and weighs about three grams, making it significantly lighter than the current-generation Oura Ring. And from the public display of the Galaxy Ring during MWC 2024 , we learned that the Galaxy Ring will come in three colors — black, gold, and silver.
Samsung ring battery life
Battery life is one of the features of the Galaxy Ring that will make people buy it over a smartwatch that needs to be charged every two days. The Oura Ring currently lasts about five days on a single charge, so Samsung will need to at least match and even beat that longevity.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring comes with three different battery sizes depending on the ring size you choose. The larger variants offer more room for battery capacity with the battery sizes listed as follows: 17 mAh, 18.5 mAh, and 22 mAh. The larger size (with a 22 mAh battery) is expected to last up to 7 days with regular use.
That's not quite what Samsung says, with Samsung claiming it will last up to nine days, beating the Oura. But, of course, that will depend on usage and some specific testing will be required before we can say exactly how long the Galaxy Ring will last before it needs charging.
Health Benefits of Samsung Galaxy Ring
The Galaxy Ring may not be as big as full-fledged fitness trackers, but it still has an optical heart rate sensor, blood oxygen monitor, and skin temperature sensor, which track activity throughout the day, and the data is synced via Bluetooth to the Samsung Health app.
Thanks to these sensors, the Galaxy Ring can monitor heart rate, use the accelerometer to assess sleep quality and automatically track workouts, and measure body temperature.
As for sleep, your data will be recorded throughout the night for analysis in the Samsung Health app, with AI-powered advice on how to improve your sleep. Additionally, this data is fed into your Energy Score – a single metric based on your sleep, recent workouts, rest periods, and daily activity.
Samsung Galaxy Ring Predictions
Samsung's launch of a new category of wearables is certainly interesting; the brand is entering a market with relatively few competitors, giving it a lead over the likes of Apple and Google, though we still don't know how the Galaxy Ring will compete with the Oura Ring.
The ring could appeal to people who want a wearable that tracks their health but don't want the bulk of a watch. In this way, Samsung could create a separate market outside of smartwatches. The Samsung Ring could also be the company's springboard to expand its online health and fitness offerings to free and paid tiers, much like Apple and Fitbit/Google have done.
