If you have an iPhone 16, you'll love this new feature in iOS 18.2
iOS 18.2 was recently released with interesting new features for the iPhone, such as the ability to set default apps via a new panel in the Settings app, or the option to create temporary links to the location of a lost object thanks to AirTag. But it also brought interesting improvements to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro camera.
These new features did not reach the camera itself, but rather reached the new camera control system available only in the iPhone 16 series. Specifically, the ability to change between the front and rear cameras, or modify the behavior control on a locked iPhone through a new setting, arrived.
First of all, the ability to switch between the front and rear cameras has arrived. Simply open the camera and call up the action menu using the camera control. Then swipe up until you find the option that will be represented by a person icon. Selecting it will change the camera. When you change the option, the rear camera will automatically return.
On the other hand, thanks to the new setting, you can modify the camera control behavior when the iPhone is locked. Until now, it was necessary to double-tap the controller if the iPhone was locked and the screen was off. With this new setting, it is possible to press only once.
To find this new setting, the steps to follow are really simple: all you have to do is open the Settings app, go to the “Display & Brightness” option, and at the bottom, deactivate the option that requires the screen to be on to open the camera using camera control.
Apple is working on improving the camera control experience so that users get used to using it, as many people are currently complaining that it is difficult to use or have even disabled it. We will see if the company is able to find a formula to change this situation.
