Elon Musk is in trouble, Google search now trusts Bluesky more than X
Elon Musk bought Twitter (now X) in 2022 and has since radically changed the policies of the social network. Some celebrities like actress Jamie Lee Curtis or media outlets like The Guardian have abandoned the app, even former founder Jack Dorsey has switched to Bluesky . Others prefer to move to Threads.
The social network has better moderation, which has helped it gain weight in Google search. The app is 10 times bigger than Elon Musk’s platform, and it added a million users in a single day this week.
One major reason is Donald Trump’s recent decision to include Musk in his government team. “It’s clear that Musk’s alignment with the president-elect and his use of the X platform to advance Trump’s interests has alienated a lot of people,” says Adam Tinworth, a social media expert and professor at City University St George.
Not only are X users leaving for political reasons, many claim the experience on the platform is worse. The moderation system and the social network algorithm have changed and millions of people don’t like it.

The lack of oversight affects X users, but also outside the app. Google doesn’t measure the importance of platforms based on the number of users alone, in this case Bluesky would be the main loser as it is 20 times smaller.

Google collects information to calculate how much space and trust it generates, and X has lost Google's trust. If you search for people online, Bluesky's profile will show up 10 times less than X's, but keep in mind that it is 10 times more relevant for objective information.
Bluesky even ranks higher than X in searches for Elon Musk’s daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. Google believes Bluesky can provide valuable information about her even if she doesn’t have a profile on the social network.
