Google introduces AI to retailers

Google has unveiled several new tools for retailers who use AI to enhance online shopping experiences and other retail operations. The new product portfolio includes the conversational commerce solution, which features AI-powered chatbots that retailers can integrate into websites and mobile applications.

Virtual agents engage in natural language conversations with shoppers and offer product suggestions based on individual preferences. These advanced language templates, such as PaLM, are customizable using retail data such as product listings and website information.

"In just one-year, generative AI has evolved from a rarely known concept to a rapidly advancing technology capability, becoming an integral part of the agendas of many retailers," Google said.

In addition, Google announced a new set of menu and content enrichment tools that leverage generative AI models to automatically generate product descriptions and label suggestions from a single product image. Retailers can also create new product images from existing images or use product descriptions as the basis for AI-generated images.

Google Shows showcases the growing impact of generative AI in the retail industry. Amazon introduced its AI tool to sellers in September/September, and the final shopping season saw the tacit integration of advanced technology by many retailers.

The language-model-based feature, which improves the quality of product searches, is part of the recently unveiled Google suite. The company added that the feature is currently available to select stores and will be available more widely later this year.

The newly unveiled AI products also include tools to improve customer service systems for retailers and speed up product indexing processes. Traditional stores can also gain new AI capabilities with Distributed Cloud Edge, a self-managed device set up to reduce IT costs and resource investments in retail-generated AI.

The announcement comes just days before the start of the National Retail Federation's annual conference in New York City. Google's cutting-edge AI tools are poised to shape the future of retail, marking a major step in integrating AI into the retail landscape.
