Apple's "Vision Pro" mixed reality glasses are achieving amazing initial sales
Apple has successfully sold nearly 200,000 units of its new Vision Pro mixed reality glasses during the initial booking period, according to a recent report by MacRumors citing sources familiar with the matter.
The tech giant opened the window for pre-ordering eyewear on Jan. 19 exclusively for its customers in the United States. Earlier reports from last week suggested initial booking orders ranged from 160,000 to 180,000 units, suggesting a slight decline in demand in subsequent days.
The media is expected to start publishing reviews of the eyewear starting today, which could boost sales in the coming days. Apple is scheduled to put the glasses on sale in stores on February 2.
It is estimated that demand for Vision Pro glasses may decline rapidly due to their limited market, with an initial price of $3,500, making them out of the budget for many consumers. Previous reports indicated that Apple expected limited sales due to higher prices and manufacturing challenges.
The cost of glasses increases as storage capacity increases or additional accessories such as vision correction lenses from Zeiss increase. Apple plans to produce nearly half a million units of glasses, making them available in the US market and possibly some other limited markets during the current year 2024.
