The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is finally here. Samsung took advantage of CES 2022 in Las Vegas to officially induct the youngest of the 2021 siblings. Here is an overview of its main differences with the classic S21.
He's there. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE was long overdue, but Samsung decided to present its “Fan Edition” on January 4, 2022, as part of the CES show in Las Vegas, with no doubt the hope of raising the issues a bit. disappointing sales of its critically acclaimed (including us) premium segment from the S21 to the S21 Ultra. Especially since the very first FE, the S20 FE, had distinguished itself throughout the year 2021 as a rather popular smartphone.
As you do not change a winning team, the S21 FE takes the formula of its predecessor: offer a lighter version of the S21 while keeping what the brand considers the essential. Let's take an inventory here of what remains and what goes.
GOODBYE ALUMINUM, HELLO PLASTIC
What Samsung did not consider essential is, for example, the aluminum on the photo unit and the frame of the S21, which has here been replaced by plastic.
As is customary when we abandon metal, the manufacturer opted for rather pop tones such as Lavender and Olive, accompanied by a matte black and white. By the way, these colors correspond in every way to those of the Galaxy Buds 2.
Another point where the smartphone makes some concessions compared to the S21: the definition of its photo sensor associated with the X3 zoom has lost a few pixels on the way. On the other hand, the other two sensors, associated with the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle optics, retain their definition and the selfie sensor even goes from 10 to 32 megapixels.

And in the dealership department, that's almost all we have to say. The rest of the smartphone does not have to be ashamed of the S21 from which it is inspired. Now let's move on to what changes little compared to its predecessor, or even what it offers the best.
A 2022-STYLE GALAXY S21
Because the S21 FE has some good assets in its hood, which should quickly eclipse the original S21. We think, for example, of the fact that it is the first Samsung smartphone to offer One UI 4 (Android 12) right out of the box, ensuring in fact an additional year of update. Like what, it is good to come out a few months later
At first glance, there would be nothing to say on the screen, since it keeps on paper most of the specificities of the S21 (full HD +, 120 Hz ...) but it adds two small details that could make the difference: it is already a 6.4-inch screen against 6.2 inches, which will no doubt appeal to fans of larger screens. And, since the release of the S21, the glass coating that protects it has gained traction. This is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus . IP68 certification is also assured.
We are of course waiting to be able to test the interface and the screen for a longer period of time, but that already makes two good points for the S21 FE.
A LITTLE LESS RAM
Another interesting point: Samsung has chosen to equip its S21 FE with a Snapdragon 888 rather than its Exynos 2100 , often deemed to be less efficient (even if, in practice, we do not often see the difference). However, it will take a little less RAM since the basic configuration of the S21 FE has only 6 GB against 8 GB in the classic S21.
On the charge and the size of the battery, nothing changes: count on 4500 mAh and a charge at 25 W wired and 15 W wireless.

The S21 FE is available in four colors: lavender, olive, black and white. It will cost 759 euros for the 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage version and 829 euros for 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. There is no 4G version. An introductory offer is offering Galaxy Buds 2 for free until February 8.
