Huawei has extensive experience in the wearables segment and this year it renewed several of its lines. On the one hand, it launched the Huawei Watch GT 3 , a device that, although it did not involve a great renovation, left us very good feelings.
It has also launched the Huawei Watch Fit Mini, a version that has the same functions and capabilities as the rest of the Fit series, but also polished its design. I tried this new device and I will tell you what my impressions have been, but I anticipate that it is capable of giving you a lot for very little without skimping on design.
Design that works
The device has barely changed its design, so it remains something of a cross between a quantifier and a smartwatch. It has a rectangular design and a curved screen with a single physical button on the right side, with which we can interact and perform actions such as going to start, the options menu or turning off, turning on and restarting the device.
At first glance, the watch looks very elegant, almost like a classic wristwatch, something in which its case also intervenes, finished in a shiny chrome material. The watch has a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 194 x 368 pixels. This looks sharp and responds very well to touches, but the brightness (up to five levels) is not enough in bright outdoor conditions.
In general, the Huawei Watch Fit Mini is very comfortable to wear, weighing only 20 grams without the strap. In addition, these extenders are interchangeable.
Performance and health monitoring
Like its predecessors, this watch is very versatile, since due to its design, size and performance it is perfect for day-to-day use, as well as for monitoring your workouts. In total, it allows you to register up to 100 activities, from the most common such as crossfit or strength exercises to others such as Latin dance, bowling or American billiards.
Of course, we can also read notifications from apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram on your screen, but we do not have the possibility to respond to messages directly from the clock.
The device offers a heart rate sensor as well as one for SpO2 monitoring. In the first case, I compared the results with the Apple Watch Series 7 and these, both at rest and when exercising, were practically identical.
In the case of blood oxygen monitoring, the results were also similar, but the measurement system is for me too slow and mostly erratic. I think the fault is in the construction of the device, as the sensor is not capable of recognizing oscillations in very small wrists well (this happened to me with the Huawei Watch GT 3).
As for the synchronization, I did it on my iPhone and I had no problem. I already had the Huawei Health app downloaded, so the process was as simple as linking the watch to the phone and granting it the appropriate permissions.
Finally, we cannot forget one of the most important points when choosing a device of this type: autonomy. I must say that in these terms the Huawei Watch Fit Mini has left a very good taste in my mouth. Taking into account that I am used to having to charge my Apple Watch every two days, the almost two weeks of autonomy that this watch can offer have meant a great improvement in my day to day life.
Conclusions.
This watch has all the characteristics for a user who either wants to buy their first smartwatch and does not want to spend too much or wants a product that provides everything they need to monitor their workouts without looking too sporty.
The Huawei Watch Fit Mini offers the same features as much more expensive models like the Watch GT 3, but for only 99 euros (about $ 110). Its autonomy is very good and its screen, although with a somewhat fair level of brightness, looks very good and responds quickly and accurately.
Logically, as it is a low-cost device, we cannot ask it to have systems such as ECG or a blood oxygen measurement that is easier to carry out, but in general it fulfills its mission at a very competitive price.
