How to add a trusted phone number to your Apple ID
Apple has a two-factor authentication security feature that requires you to verify a login from a trusted device and phone number before you are allowed to access your Apple ID with a verification code.
This tutorial shows you how to add a trusted phone number to your Apple ID to make sure you take full advantage of this extra security.
What is a Trusted Phone Number?
A trusted phone number is part of Apple 's two-factor authentication architecture that protects your Apple ID information from unauthorized access.
Your Apple ID contains sensitive information, such as your real name, address, credit card number, etc., and a trusted phone number provides Apple another way to contact you to identify you.
How to add a trusted phone number to your Apple ID
When you sign in to an Apple device with your Apple ID, your trusted phone number receives a sign-in prompt. If your trusted phone number was used on your iPhone, the prompt will display the approximate location of the device you're using to sign in to your account. When you agree to the initial claim, you will receive a code. This code will be entered on the Apple device you're trying to sign in with.
1. Go to settings.
2. Tap on your Apple ID.
3. Go to "Password and Security".
4. Click Edit to the right of Trusted Phone Number.
5. Click on Add Trusted Phone Number.
6. Select the country, enter the phone number, and select how you want to verify the phone number. Click Submit.
7. Enter the verification code you received with the phone number you added.
8. Enter your device passcode.
9. The new phone number will be added to the "Trusted Phone Numbers" list.
