Telegram gives users a new way to make money from the app
With this update, creators can create invite links that allow users to join a channel in exchange for a monthly payment. Telegram’s goal with this update is for creators to be able to charge for additional or early access to content in a way similar to Patreon.
Additionally, as a bonus for creators, they will be the ones who set the price of their content and can convert stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency rewards or sponsored ads. Telegram takes a commission from transactions involving stars, but the company has not specified the amount.
Telegram is also launching Star Reactions, which allows users to directly support their favorite creators. Star Reactions is similar to YouTube’s “Super Thanks” feature. Creators get 100% of the stars they earn through the reactions feature.
With initiatives like these, we can see Telegram’s desire to help creators make money through its platform. It’s worth noting that last month, the company started allowing creators to share paid content on their channels, and a few months ago, Telegram launched the ability to share ad revenue with creators.
