Intel unveils processor that brings generative AI to laptops
Intel announced on Tuesday that a new chip due to launch in December will be able to run AI-powered chatbots on a laptop, eliminating the need to rely on cloud data centers for computing power. This capability will enable businesses and consumers to test technologies such as the popular chatGPT without sending sensitive data from their devices.
Intel attributes this achievement to new AI data processing features included in the upcoming laptop chip known as Meteor Lake, along with new software tools launched by the US chip giant.
Intel executives also expect to ship the next generation of chips, called Arrow Lake, next year as Intel's manufacturing technology prepares to compete with Taiwan's semiconductor maker (TSMC) to deliver on the promise they made.
It should be noted that Intel was once the leader in chip manufacturing but has lost its superiority. Now, they claim to be on their way back to the forefront.
