Release date, features, and rumored specs for Meta Quest 3
The rumored release date, features, and specs of Meta Quest 3 The Meta Quest 3 in its approach – though not until later in 2023, mainly depends on what the company has reported so far.
While Meta introduced the cutting-edge Meta Quest Professional software in Meta Join 2022, there was no reference to the successor to the widespread Meta Quest 2.
So, when should we rely on the vision of Quest 3 and, more importantly, what can we rely on from next-generation digital realistic headphones?
While in the early days, there are already whispers and leaks that give us a serious idea of what to expect from Quest 3, along with rumors of an early launch date and leaks.
When Meta first started exciting Meta Quest Professional in 2021, many assumed it would be the successor to Quest 2. In fact, we all now know that it is a completely different headset with highlighting previous games.
The good news is that we shouldn't have long to attend to a real successor – the launch in 2023 seems to be more and more like for Meta Quest 3.
The launch of 2023 in the name Meta earnings was pledged this fall 2022 – which happened on February 1, 2023 – when CEO Mark Zuckerberg made it fairly clear: "Later this 12 months, we'll launch our subsequent technology client headset."
While Zuckerberg doesn't explicitly refer to Quest 3, the reference to the "customer headset" tells us – Meta considers the current Quest 2 to be a consumer-focused headset, as opposed to the skillful/innovative focus of Quest Professional.
The 2023 launch is supported by analyst Brad Lynch, which means that the upgraded Meta Quest 3 will likely be unveiled on the Meta Join 2023 occasion and will be launched quickly after that. If the company sticks to the similar timeline of recent years, it means that October 2023 unveiled Quest 3.
It is noteworthy that the company has an occasion earlier than that time. It will retain the Quest Gaming Showcase on June 1, promising to "double the information" for the last 12 months of the equal occasion. However, this was a precursor to the program accurately, and we expect the same this time. However, there's a high probability of revealing Quest 3 – or at least a great headset tease – so it could be a valuable tuning.
While it's seemingly too early for Meta to price the upcoming headset – especially if it's not due until the end of 2023 – Mark Zuckerberg has calmed VR followers who were scared of the $1,500/£1,500 excess ticket price. Meta Quest Professional.
While some were afraid that the excess value of Quest Professional might be heading toward a better entry-level VR headset value, Zuckerberg confirmed in an October 2022 interview with Stratechery that the Quest 3 would likely be within the "value" of $300, $400, or $500 for that region."
With that in mind, we're relying on Quest 3 to evaluate a similar amount to the $399/£399 Meta Quest 2, however, we'll replace this part if we hear something completely different.
What will be the specifications and options of Quest 3?
While it is not scheduled to end for some time, the Quest 3 has already been the subject of various leaks, giving us a good suggestion on what to expect from the upcoming VR headset.
Improve efficiency
Sports Activities Meta Quest 2 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR 2 platform, delivering amazing stand-alone efficiency that we all know.
It would be safe to imagine that Meta and Qualcomm would continue this relationship with Quest 3 and the next-gen Snapdragon cell platform, which should be acquired by the point Quest 3 goes into manufacturing.
Virtual reality analyst Brad Lynch initially recommended that Meta may take a special path, as an alternative to growing its personal chipset for the upcoming headset. The analyst claimed that the company was rumored to be engaged in a chip with a "deal with a GPU designed higher for hundreds of VRs", in terms of "not relying on the SoC that every small player of XR games will use".
However, in a follow-up video on YouTube in late September 2021, Lynch now means that the Quest 3 will definitely have the next generation of Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipsets along with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.
While this doesn't give us much to move forward, it seems to prove that Quest 3 can have higher graphics efficiency, which should translate into higher and more immersive video games and apps that can be obtained on the standalone platform.
Modern LCD Displays
Another prediction from Lynch means that Quest 3 will provide the optimization somewhat within the viewing section. While Lynch initially recommended changing the OLED on the playing cards, more recent leaks suggest that Meta identified it as an alternative on a high-resolution LCD panel and faster than the Quest 2 panel.
In line with Lynch, Quest 3 will display a 2064×2208 LCD display per eye and a high refresh charge of 120Hz – that's a bigger and faster decision than the premium Quest Professional, which properly promises customers.
While Quest 2 has provided a 120Hz beta mode for the past few months, it's unique for apps and video games that help it, with Meta Residence and various parts of the operating system displayed though at 90Hz. A rise to 120Hz will provide you with a noticeable rise in smoothness no matter where you use the headset.
Not much is understood regarding the display technique, along with the subject of vision, however, it is exciting nonetheless.
Combined reality
The greatest look at Meta Quest 3 also comes from Lynch, which showed leaked CAD visualizations for the upcoming headset in late September 2022, giving us a good suggestion of what to expect from next-generation headphones – along with specs confirming that Meta is planning to shift focus in the direction of shared reality.
The video provides important insights into what to expect from the next-generation VR headphones, codenamed Mission Stinson internally, which appear to be a combination of Quest 2 and Quest Professional.
The leaked CAD presentation seems to suggest that the headset is likely to be more targeted on augmented reality than just digital reality with additional cameras, apparently with color crossover capabilities just like Quest Professional.
This makes sense given the company's earnings name in the fall of 2022 when Zuckerberg promised that Quest 3 would "differentiate Meta Actuality" – companies are learning about their technology to mixed digital reality and augmented reality options in identical {devices}.
It also mentions that it has identical pie lenses due to the professional headset, which allows for an additional compression-type problem, and it looks like there will probably be a manually adjustable IPD wheel on the underside of the headset as well. This will make it much easier to organize an IDP than Quest 2, which requires you to take off your headset.
The big difference between Quest 3 and Quest Professional? Lynch claims that Quest 3 hasn't gained eye or face surveillance, two essential options for a professional headset. It seems to be a cost-saving measure greater than something, allowing Meta to keep the value of Quest 3 low and inexpensive for buyers – especially as inflation rates rise rapidly in many regions around the world.
The video moves into granular elements around parts like cooling and sound, so sit back and sit together for 18 minutes for a casual deep dive into Quest 3.
