Best Convertibles of 2024
These are the best convertibles on the market today, and you won't regret buying them.
Now that summer is here, it's time to think about driving in hotter climates. The convertible experience is unparalleled, so there's no better way to enjoy summer than in a convertible.
As SUVs are replaced by cars, there are fewer convertibles available for purchase, but there are still many great options.
No matter what anyone says, I will always maintain my belief that convertibles are supercars. It's a shame they aren't more popular because they are not only fashionable but also incredibly fun to drive.
My Mazda Miata, which has a lot to offer for a small car with a non-fixed roof, is my particular favorite.
These convertibles are fun, often have fast engines, and are simply unique from typical cars.
The permanent smile I get on my face whenever I get behind the wheel makes the occasional leak when you go through the car wash and maintaining a smooth top a huge pain in the neck and a small price to pay.
However, I’ve compiled a list of the best convertibles on the market right now. Read on to learn more about owning a convertible daily driver, and then check out some of my tips.
The best convertibles of 2024 have been selected by us.
Take a test drive in any of the vehicles you're considering if you're interested. Making sure the experience fits your driving style is crucial because convertibles offer a different driving experience than traditional sedans and coupes.
Now let's take a look at the best convertibles of 2024.

2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata
The answer is always Miata for a reason. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is the ultimate convertible—compact, rear-wheel drive, and two-seater.
The latest Miatas come in stunning RF trim with either a Targa top or a soft top. Simply release a center clip and pull the soft top back to remove it. It takes 13 seconds at the car’s top speed of six mph to lower the RF.
The 2.0-liter I4 produces 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, and yes, a six-speed manual transmission is available with it.
Although it's not the fastest in a straight line, its excellent handling when the road gets winding can make more powerful vehicles look foolish.
Which is better? Starting at $28,665, they cost $1,015 with shipping, and the most expensive RF costs over $39,000.
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The Chevrolet Corvette is the only topic of conversation if you want to discuss value for money. This mid-engined bad boy is priced at $69,595 plus $1,295 destination, yet it competes favorably with supercars that cost six figures. At speeds of up to 30 mph, the retractable hardtop can be lowered in 13 seconds.
The 6.2-liter V8 produces 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. A limited-slip differential, sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes and aggressive summer tires are included in the $7,540 Z51 Performance Package, which helps the Corvette accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds.
The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible offers more trunk space.
BMW 8 Series Convertible in 2022
The 840i and M850i xDrive models are available in the BMW 8 Series Convertible, or for those who want to go all out, there's also the fully convertible M8 Competition.
The mid-engined M850i is my favorite because it has power and luxury, plus all-wheel drive. You can also choose interior trim in wood, piano black or carbon fiber, plus all the Merino leather you could possibly want.
There are now ventilated seats, heated seats, armrests, steering wheels, as well as a neck warmer option, which you should definitely opt for.
There's a 1,375-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system and a variety of high-tech driver aids, such as Backup Assistant that can track the vehicle in reverse to help you get out of tight parking spaces.
The M850i’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, and the multi-layered cloth soft top can be lowered in 15 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. All this German goodness doesn’t come cheap. For the base M850i, expect to pay at least $100,000, plus $995 for destination.

2022 Bentley Continental GT Convertible
Best Luxury Convertible
It's hard to beat the Bentley Continental when it comes to drop-top luxury. You can have the coach-built convertible of your dreams by adding a speed plate.
The twin-turbocharged W12 engine in the Conti GT Convertible Speed has been modified to produce an extremely high 650 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.
The Continental accelerates from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 208 miles per hour thanks to the advanced all-wheel drive system that receives this power.
The roof is still available in seven colors, including tweed, and can be opened or closed in less than 19 seconds. There are several exterior color variations available, and there are 15 primary and 11 secondary concealment options available for the interior.
Speaking of which, you get a very stunning piano black or wood trim, embroidered headrests, fast badges, heating and cooling everything, and more.
What about the cost? I'll tell you anyway though the response is, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." $313,825 is the amount you should budget for, plus $2,725 for travel.
The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible boasts incredible speed and luxurious luxury.
2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, 2022
The ultimate convertible
The Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is the convertible with the most performance available. The 3,800-pound convertible is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine mated to an eight-speed PDK transmission that produces 640 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
It has a top speed of 205 mph, a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10.6 seconds. Oh, and the soft top is pretty quick, too. It can be lowered in 12 seconds with a top speed of 31 mph.
Pirelli NA 255/35 tires mounted on 20-inch wheels up front and massive 315/30 tires mounted on 21-inch wheels at the rear give you grip, and all-wheel drive prevents this car from oversteering through the twisties.
However, the Porsche is expensive. Expect to spend a starting price of $221,150, which includes a $1,350 destination charge and a $1,000 gas guzzler tax.
The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is better.
2022 McLaren 720S Spider
You’ll need a radical upgrade if you want the performance and aesthetics of a convertible supercar, and in that case, I like the McLaren 720S Spider. First, cool electrochromic glass that can switch from tinted to clear is an option for the convertible roof, along with carbon fiber. It lowers in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph, regardless of roof type.
A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces a ferocious 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque and powers the 720S Spider. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheels.
The McLaren can accelerate from a curb weight of 2,900 pounds to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 212 mph. Googly mogly awesome.
The McLaren stands out from the crowd because it has the look of a supercar, like a billionaire, or should I say dihedral, with sculpted doors and body panels. The price? Just $318,000, plus $2,500 for travel.

2022 Chevy Camaro V8 Convertible
The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible might be what you’re looking for if American muscle is what you’re after. While the ZL1 can be driven like crazy, I prefer the power of the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 and the fact that the top can be up and down in just 14 seconds from speeds up to 30 mph.
That results in either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission sending 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. That’s a lot of power, and you avoid paying the ZL1’s high gas price.
The V8 Camaro costs $41,395 at launch, plus $1,195 delivery, which is reasonable for an old American pony car.
The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's performance looks impressive for a convertible.
Mini Cooper S Convertible, 2022
The Mini Cooper S Convertible is my favorite because of its dual-use soft top. You can either push a button and see it fully open in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 18 mph, or you can slide it back halfway for a little bit of open-air experience. Plus, the Union Jack pattern can be woven right in. Bonus!
Aside from the distinctive top, the Mini is a blast to drive. Either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission can be used to transfer the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine’s 189 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. The convertible’s go-kart handling is typical of well-known Minis.
It is exciting to drive when the road gets winding due to its low, low dimensions and power delivery.
The Mini Cooper S Convertible starts at $32,750, plus $850 for delivery.
On the 2021 Mini Cooper Sidewalk Edition, lower the top.
2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the few four-seat convertibles that offers adults enough rear legroom. The back seat has 34.1 inches of legroom. That may sound small, but not when compared to the 29.5 inches of rear legroom in the BMW 8-Series convertible.
The E-Class's Aircap and Airscarf wind deflectors also reduce air turbulence for front and rear seat passengers, respectively. At speeds up to 31 mph, the top can be lowered in 20 seconds.
A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine powers the E 450 Cabriolet. The EQ Boost mild-hybrid system adds 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. $74,300 is the amount you should budget for, plus $1,050 for transportation.
The breathtaking 2021 Mercedes-Benz E450 Convertible is a drop-top.
2022 Ford Bronco
Want to go off-road in your doorless, topless vehicle? The updated Ford Bronco does it right. The mirrors are still there when the doors are removed, and the frameless doors can be kept inside the vehicle. The interior sports bar houses side curtain airbags, and the remaining top is easy to remove.
The Bronco is an off-road beast regardless of trim, but we prefer the Wildtrak with its Baja mode for quick stops and the Sasquatch package with 35-inch tires. Both the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4 with 315 lb-ft of torque and 275 horsepower are available as options.
The Ford Bronco starts at $32,395 plus $1,495 destination charge. The Wildtrak costs $51,375, which is much higher.
The 2022 Ford Bronco is also comfortable to drive off-road.
Jeep Wrangler 4xe in 2022
The plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a great electric option, though fully electric convertibles haven’t made their debut on the market yet. Just be prepared to lose the roof with some muscle. The two “freedom panels” on the three-piece hardtop can be removed at any time, sort of.
If you haven't overburdened yourself with camping and recovery supplies, you can store the necessary gear and time in your Jeep. You'll need tools, a friend, and space in your garage to maintain the larger third of the hardtop once it's removed.
There are two soft tops available, but they can't be taken down with a button. You have to open the windows, unzip the zippers and fasten the Velcro straps. From March to November, keeping the top down is usually the easiest option. Is it raining? Let it be.
With just the battery, you can go 22 miles and save every last electron for when you hit the road. Expect to pay $55,390, starting at $1,595 destination.

Which convertible is better to buy?
A convertible that you can afford, fits your lifestyle, and makes you happy is the one you should buy. I could go on and on about how great the Mazda Miata is as a convertible, but if you routinely travel with three friends or a family of six, it’s not the best convertible for you.
There’s a convertible out there for everyone, which is great news. Get a Jeep Wrangler if you enjoy off-roading. A Chevrolet Camaro has everything you need if you’re into straight-line driving. And hey, you could do a lot worse than a McLaren 720S Spider if money is no object.
Is a convertible hardtop or soft top better?
It all comes down to personal taste. Hardtops are usually electronically operated, and failure is always a possibility with moving parts. However, hardtops are often more watertight and have a superior ability to hold the weight of winter snow. If you have to park your car on the street, they are also safer and more insulated.
Although it is more difficult to remove a Jeep Wrangler soft top, soft tops are often quicker to remove. They may also be less expensive than a hard top.
However, they generate a lot of cabin noise and require extra maintenance to keep the fabric clean. Pay the extra money for a glass rear window if your preferred soft top offers the option instead of plastic. Plastic ones will scratch quickly, making it difficult to see the back within a year.
Additionally, you may discover that thieves are attracted to soft tops. I have developed a practice of leaving my car unlocked with nothing of value inside. The cost of a knife through a soft top can be significant. Allow the thief to pry the door open so he can look through your sub-compact CD collection.
Can convertibles be used in the rain?
Convertibles are actually pretty good in the rain. In heavy rain, older soft tops can get a little slick, but new convertibles shouldn’t have any problems. Your tires are one item you should pay attention to, though. Hear me out: Summer tires, which perform best in warmer conditions, are often fitted to convertibles straight out of the factory.
Your tires may not provide as much traction in the mud once it starts raining and the temperature drops. People who live in colder climates are well prepared to get a set of all-season tires.
Can you drive a soft top car in winter?
Without a doubt, you can drive a convertible with a soft top during the winter. Before you go, make sure all the snow is cleared away. Also, remember what I said earlier about your tires. You may want to bring a jacket and turn up the heat along the way because the soft top won’t insulate you as well as a hard top.
One of life's few pleasures is putting up and taking down a soft top on a sunny day with snow falling all around. However, keep in mind that many soft tops tend to shrink a bit in cold weather. They may be easy to remove, but it can take some effort to put them back on.
