WhatsApp receives 3 new features that will change the way the application is used 180 degrees
It's been a long time since the last major update to WhatsApp, which allowed, among other things, to edit messages, set a specific time to delete messages... Now another important new update arrives that includes 3 major new features that you will love to customize the experience and improve your security.
WhatsApp is evolving at a much slower pace than other messaging apps, introducing features we’ve seen before in other competing apps. The WhatsApp news that’s coming soon is about chat themes, usernames, and conversation security. We’ll talk about each one to learn more about what they offer users.
- Chat themes
The specialized site WABetaInfo are the ones who discovered this new feature for WhatsApp on iOS. Everything seems to indicate that there will soon be several themes to choose from for each conversation, giving the user the option to customize their experience. The result is similar to the chat themes on Instagram, where you can find all kinds of themes based on all kinds of elements.
Similarly, the WhatsApp beta shows that users can also customize the color of the speech bubble where each person’s messages appear, as well as set individual themes for each chat. At the moment, there are 10 default themes, it is not known whether the changes apply to both users as it happens on Instagram or if they change for both and we do not know if it is new only for iOS and also for Android.
- Usernames in WhatsApp
It has been rumored for some time that you could use your own username when logging into WhatsApp. It has been in development for a long time and has been seen again in the latest update. It is worth noting that the username will not be the same one that appears when you type in a WhatsApp group and no one has saved you.
The username on WhatsApp will work like Instagram and X, allowing users to create a connection with other users without having to share a phone number. It is a method that improves user privacy and security, although you will certainly have doubts because anyone who knows your username can message you.
WhatsApp has thought of a way to solve this problem which is to create a PIN, to search for you and reach you the person who wants to start a conversation with you will be required to know the PIN. This means that if there is no PIN, no one will be able to send you a message even if they know your username.
Only a few users have been able to access the WhatsApp beta and its features. At the moment, it is not known when it will reach all users, as neither WhatsApp nor Meta have shared a release date, so we will just have to wait indefinitely until the official date is set.
