Ultimate Ears FITS Earphone Specifications

The Ultimate Ears FITS molded eartips are a truly innovative piece of technology for those who fit their ears, but although they look clear and detailed, they are not the most dynamic and vivid among listeners.

Introduction

For true wireless earbuds, how to fit a hearing aid has always been a thorny issue. With the first wireless earbuds, Ultimate Ears has devised a new way to solve this problem once and for all.

These are buds that form in your inner ear as a result of Ultimate Ears' Lightform technology. It's smart and innovative but it's actually not entirely new – the buds were originally launched in the U.S. in 2020, and it took nearly two years for the Ultimate Ears Fits to reach people's heads outside the U.S.

Was the wait worth it? Here are my thoughts.

Gel eartips form on your ear

Ultimate Ears FITS features photopolymer gel ear tips and built-in LED lights that heat and strengthen the gel to shape the ear tips on your inner ear. The goal is to achieve a unique fit for you and block out external noise.

The sensation of warmth of the eartips is like a fire that is about to begin in your ears, but the process is safe and takes only 60 seconds. It is an innovative piece of technology that eliminates the concept of switching between different ear tips. After all, it must be appropriate.

30 days for your reference.

I think it would be helpful to do an ear fit test in the app before starting the "shaping" process. For now, the app only gives you a bass sample, and although this is the most obvious part of the frequency band affected by unsafe compatibility, I think a more thorough fit test might be better.

Regardless, the Ultimate Ears FITS fit in gloves. Discomfort is not a particular problem (although I must admit that I can feel their presence whenever I wear them) and they do not give any impression that they may fall; although I found plenty of room to maneuver in adjusting the fit, probably because I forgot the exact angle at which I put the earbuds.

Passive noise isolation skills are strong, reducing the amount of ambient noise passing through them but not eliminating them completely. There is still a fair amount of ambient sound, which shoots require a few sound level jumps to get rid of. They wore around the London Bridge area reducing most sounds, but the heavy duty noise (truck traffic) was still noticeable.

The virtual touch controls are located on a bead-shaped earbud part, which is easy to learn with a single tap volume and double-tap play/pause. The controls can be somewhat delicate, as sliding my finger over the earbuds sometimes inadvertently turns up the volume.

That's all you get for controls with the option to customize in the app – skip tracking, and voice support are the other options to choose from, although Google Assistant isn't natively supported but is connected through your phone. Water resistance is IPX3, which is enough to protect the shoots from splashing water on them from any direction.

Spanning the colors from Eclipse (Midnight Blue), Cloud (Grey), and Dawn (Lilac), the colors are personally-gentler options and a far cry from the bicolor colors of the Ultimate Ears speaker range. The matching clamshell-shaped charging case, the earbuds are magnetically attached to the holder through the Bluetooth pairing button on the inside and the USB-C port on the back. Its smooth shape indicates its overall quality, and the size and depth of the case makes it easily slip into the pocket.

Attributes

No noise cancellation modes

Battery life is less than expected

Decent enough call quality

There is no ANC mode, no transparency mode, both of which are common features around the Ultimate Ears ITS order price. That doesn't mean they should include ANC, but the convenience offered by similarly priced competitors, such as the Beats Fit Pro, Jabra Elite 7 Pro, and LG UT90Q, may affect some apart from UE.

IN FACT, ON THE FEATURE INTERFACE, UE FITS IS RATHER LIGHT. There is an application that guides the wearer through the formation process, and within it the ability to track battery life, customize the sound (through several presets and five-band equivalent), controls (can be turned off), and, of course, start firmware updates.

There are also ways to check your suitability but it works more as a questionnaire than as a hearing test. If you find yourself unhappy with the fit, you can hire UE experts to judge whether you need a different size.

Bluetooth connectivity is version 5.0, with support for SBC, AAC and aptX . I've found that wireless connectivity is good in most places, but it doesn't stop and wade into intermittent water whenever it ventures into congested signal areas like Waterloo Station.

The battery life is rated as 8 hours with another 20 hours in the charging case (making a charge uneven 28 or three and a half charges). After streaming an hour from Spotify playlist to Ultimate Ears FITS at an almost average volume, the battery drain was 18%, and if it continues at that rate, it will put battery life at 5.5 hours, which is less than what Ultimate Ears claims. Fast charging brings an hour of listening from a 10-minute charge.

There is audio support in that Ultimate Ears FITS is compatible with Google Assistant and Siri, and there is high-quality performance to consider as well. FITS are above average, good at capturing audio clearly and silencing noise, but they suffer from a lot of noise. Suppression levels to balance higher voices also suppress my voice; the person on the other end said he couldn't hear what I was saying at these moments.

There is another version of FITS in Logitech G Fits, which has the same design and tip molding technology. But its primary audience are gamers, who are able to connect to a range of game consoles, PCs and Macs.

Sound quality

Lacks dynamism

Clear and wide performance

Not the most vital bass performance

Ultimate Ears FITS approach to frequency is a smooth, clear, and mostly strongly balanced approach. I don't find that the bass has the same amount of hole or stretch, but it's not that low frequencies are ignored - they are tastefully described.

The upper end of the frequency is transmitted with brightness, and the midband is clearly connected, although I hear traces of whistling from time to time; it is probably a symptom of a slightly loose fit, but since it is not always present, I have come to doubt that some genres (rap, hip-hop) and songs sound more sensitive, especially when listened to outside.

I'll call Ultimate Ears FITS consistent in their delivery; the sound acts as a cover that covers all musical genres and describes them in similar terms. It's not particularly dynamic, especially with UE Signature presetting, either on a large scale or at a more subtle level, there's not much going up or down in chords or sounds that make a noticeable impression.

Nora Jones' voice during "I Don't Know Why" reaches a steady level while each verse has to swing upwards in tone. However, there is a pleasant brightness of the piano in the track, a clear sense of detail and clarity, but the lack of dynamism also means a lack of excitement. The song plays in front of you, but does not necessarily have to react or control.

The Loudness EQ setting captures the songs and makes their sense of dynamism clearer, expanding the sound stage by a few degrees. With the music of Erick Sermon (feat. Marvin Jay), the vocal stage is spacious, the bass is decent if not the most descriptive, and the lyrics of Sermon are crystal clear. But while everything looks good and is accurately described, its steady and sumptuous pace doesn't consume the power from the bass to excit.

It's a similar case with Simple Minds Don't You (Forget About Me). Rhythmic beats detailed, sharp and exciting, and an acceptable sense of detail and clarity; but the earbuds make a consistent work-like performance. More energy and driving will help lift the song from the safe and bona fide area where Ultimate Ears FITS puts itself in.
