Key features
3K display, OLED, 360° hinge
Intel Xe graphics performance and i5 or i7 processor options
Introduction
Samsung just rolled out three new laptops along with the Galaxy S23 smartphone range, and I had the opportunity to try out the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 before launch.
The Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 sits aside on the Galaxy Book 3 Pro but below the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra in Samsung's exciting 2023 laptop lineup.
I spent about an hour with the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 before it was unveiled in Unpacked, and here are my initial ideas.
Screen & Design
S-Pen included
360° view
The only model in the Book 3 family with a touch screen
The differences between the Galaxy Book 3 Pro and the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 are mostly related to its screen – but these changes will also change who this laptop appeals to. As the 360 title suggests, you can flip the screen here, pinning it to a table to hide the keyboard when you're watching a movie or showing photos of someone.
It's also the only member of the Book 3 family with a touchscreen and built-in S-Pen for tinkering, drawing, or taking notes on the screen. This adds some extra variety, although it has a slightly bulbous hinge and isn't quite elegant as a result.
While there are two size options for the regular Galaxy Book 3 Pro, the 360 sticks to a 16-inch size. It is large as a result but still fairly light at 1.71 kg and thin at 12.8 mm.
The screen itself is great, just as you'd expect from Samsung. It's an AMOLED panel, so expect exceptional contrast in grainy black. The 3K resolution (2880 × 1880) produces extremely sharp images and there is a 120Hz refresh rate to smooth the motion.
The keyboard seems to have a great deal of travel and the trackpad is large and responsive, although I'll need more time with my laptop to judge these aspects correctly.
Specifications & Performance
Choice of Intel i5 or i7 chips (28W)
Intel Xe graphics
Tight integration with Samsung phones
Internally, the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 is very similar to the Galaxy Book 3 Pro and is located beneath the more powerful Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. There's no choice for Nvidia GPUs here, with integrated Intel Xe graphics being the only option.
In terms of CPU, there is a choice between 12th generation Intel i5 or i7 chips (28 watts) that offer some powerful performance for the size of the device. There's a 1080p webcam for video calls, as well as a good choice of ports, including HDMI, 3x USB-C (these are also used for charging) and one USB-A – you won't find that in the MacBook Pro .
There is a Micro SD slot as well, although unfortunately it is not a full-size version that will be more useful.
Getting pen input improves this laptop's creative skills, and Samsung runs the software a lot here – especially how it integrates with the rest of the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. Apple does this very well, so it's no surprise that those who design Windows laptops now try to do something similar.
You can, for example, extend the phone data connection to your laptop to help work on the go. If you want to further improve work on the go, there is 5G variation for this device as well.
Another clever software trick that plays a role in Samsung's partnership with Adobe. You can import screenshots from Galaxy S23's Expert RAW app directly into Lightroom for editing – and Samsung will be given six months of free use of the service as well.
Other software tricks include copying and pasting between devices and the ability to extend the display to the tablet.
Early judgment
Thanks to its 360-degree display and additional 5G connectivity, the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 manages to distinguish itself from other family members. Its large screen may put off a bit, but it seems like a good option for more creative people.
