OnePlus Phone Specifications
These colored strips on the back are designed to show off the phone's Active CryoFlux cooling system, which OnePlus says boosts gaming performance and charging speeds.
The latest OnePlus concept phone is all about keeping calm. The company showcased the OnePlus 11 Concept at MWC Barcelona, which features glowing blue pipelines on the back to represent the coolant of the "Active CryoFlux" cooling technology.
Yes, it's designed to look glamorous, but OnePlus says the cooling system serves an important practical purpose. By keeping the phone cool under load, the company claims that you can get better gaming performance and faster charging speeds. All without the need for the "size, weight and noise" of a fan that actually rotates as seen from the likes of Nubia or in Razer or Asus smartphone cooling accessories.
The two performance features quoted include a 2.1°C (about 35.8°F) drop in temperature while gaming, which OnePlus claims can raise performance between 3 and 4 frames per second, or while charging, the Active CryoFlux system can reduce temperatures by 1.6°C (about 34.9°F), increasing charging speeds by 30 to 45 seconds.
Unfortunately, none of these performance benefits were showcased with the OnePlus 11 Concept devices that the company was showcasing during the MWC show, so we'll have to take the company's word on the practical benefits. They certainly look beautiful, though.
OnePlus says that the "industrial piezoelectric ceramic micropump" pushes liquid through the device's pipelines, and this takes up less than 0.2 cm² of space. Despite the cooling system, the phone did not feel the weight or heaviness in the hand, although it is unclear whether other internal components have been minimized to save space for the cooling system.
Unfortunately, it is not clear when or indeed whether the Active CryoFlux cooling system might make it a consumer device. OnePlus has unveiled devices with a similar concept before, including one with a color shifting back and another with cameras disappearing, and we still haven't seen the launch of either of the two technologies in the world. It would be a shame if the concept of OnePlus 11 was taken to the same fate.
