Learn about the Compact OS feature in Windows to compress the C drive and gain more space on your computer

Windows 10 comes with many features that make it an integrated operating system and adds a number of shortcomings that were present in older versions of the Windows operating system. Among the best features in Windows 10 and 11 is the Compact OS feature, which allows users to compress the entire operating system and make it use less memory space, in addition to also compressing system files and programs installed on the same system.

In any case, if you are using Windows 10  or 11 and over time you suffer from shrinking and filling the C drive space, you can solve this problem through the Compact OS feature. It should be remembered that doing so does not affect the system in any negative way, so all you have to do is open the cmd command prompt with admin privileges by right-clicking cmd and then clicking Run as administrator, then after opening it, write this command: compact /compactos:always and press enter

Wait a little from 7 to 15 minutes until the C drive is compressed, and after the compression is finished, you will see the files that were compressed and, in return, the files that were not compressed as in the image above. By the way, when you want to decompress the C drive again and undo this process, it is enough for you to write the command compact /compactos:never and click enter and also wait for the decompression period.
