Google has made it easier to identify valuable and harmful extensions by rolling out two new badge features for extensions per user for the Chrome online store.

A month ago, the company was spotted testing a new naming feature for the Chrome online store that will help users avoid downloading bad or harmful chrome extensions and will work as a verified code or not.

The new badge system is also for developer support; developers who will receive these badges, their extensions may appear in special ads and may get higher rankings in search and filtering.

The goal of the new premium publisher badge and Google Publisher Emblem is to make it easier to find great extensions and understand which publisher of extensions has a good track record with no record of violations that prevent users from installing or not.

Founder Publisher Badge

The first badge, the Founder Publisher badge, will show verified publishers, which are developer extensions that comply with Google services and the Developer Program Policy. This badge will be awarded to developers automatically.

Distinctive Badge

The second badge is the distinctive badge for extensions that follow Google best practices, provide high-level design and user experience, and have a clear description of the extensions on the list page related to user privacy. To get this badge, developers have to nominate their own extensions for a premium badge.

Google's official report also stated that their team members will intelligently check each term for each extension before finalizing the badge being awarded, and publishers are not allowed to pay to receive the badge.

Mozilla Firefox, Chrome's competitor, has a similar "recommended extensions" feature. Recently, Google has been spotted working on the new "self-sharing" feature in Android Nearby Sharing.
